YEs, that's right. During the regular draft you can take two rookies, though. The supp draft will be 4 rounds, if you have taken one or two rookies in the regular draft, you are just skipped in the supplemental.
So basically Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin will probably get taken in the regular draft or are recent draftees exempt frmo the regular draft?

Really buoyed by the news of Downie's signing -- 2 years/$3.75. Should mean a consistent top-six role which should mean another 50 point, 200 PIM campaign. Nice.

Yea, Hall and Seguin will likely get drafted, but wasn't there specifically an issue with PFiDC wanting to Draft GoGo last year in the main draft and we didn't let him?

Then why even have a rookie draft if they're not exempt?

Yes because PF had already taken two rookies (varlamov and tavares).

You can't take players that are < 65 GP (skater)/ < 10 GP (goalie) as anything but rookies. So you can't say, I'm taking Hall but I don't want him to be a rookie. Any player that meets those requirements must be a rookie. So, you can only take two players with those GP numbers in the regular draft.

I think Hammer's thinking was that it would prevent people from completely loading up on the top rookies.

It just handcuffs the bad teams (me) now because I have to choose between Tyler Hall/Taylor Seguin in the first round of the regular draft or I won't have a shot at them at all. It's not like I have a shot at any top-talent with 6-8 keepers on each team.

I say we're to the point where we can separate the two drafts completely - no rookies in the regular draft at all. Or at least no rookies without any NHL experience.

I think that or just have one draft with all of the rookies and players combined. Yet have the rookie limit at 4-5.

Personally, I don't like separating rookie drafts at all. I prefer adding the element of rookies/prospects to the regular draft and letting teams decide between immediate success or longer-term success/rebuilding. I probably agree with you that if the goal is to keep teams from loading up on rookies the whole thing should be separate, but its hard for me to think like that because I'm strongly in favor of having one big draft, period. I think your rebuilding effort is likely to come from trades for rookies/younger players anyway since even if it was all totally separate you'd still only get one of the top rookies. Obviously what you'd gain is getting to dip into the NHL talent in rd. 1 of the regular draft, but, you ought to just go full-on rebuild anyway. Having everyone in one draft would actually probably help you stockpile more, better rookies because teams might actually pass over guys in the regular draft, whereas in a snaking rookie draft you are going to get a Hall/Seguin then see 25th overall rookie talent.

I can agree with that. Let's have one big draft or separate the two completely. It makes no sense in having one regular draft and one kinda-rookie draft.

Hopefully the commish has a chance to take a look at that today. Hammer - any thoughts? I recall your motivating being the prevention of teams stockpiling younger players, and I don't imagine that has changed, so, I'd think you want to keep it as max 2 rookies in regular draft and still have supplemental rookie draft? I don't really have anything more to say in advocating for the change to one big draft other than what I said in discussing with kicksave, so, see above for my thoughts.

What about limiting the rookies per round: 2 in rounds 1-4 1 in 5-7 1 after that?

I've always teased with what I could actually get, but it'd have to be two top talents and a draft pick for the stats he puts up.

Yeah, in a limited keeper you can never get enough (especially in the off-season), because the trade ultimately involves you dropping the guys you were going to keep to make room for the new players. So it becomes Ovechkin, Staal, Booth for Top Playerx3 + pick. OV is a little bit more tradeable in this league because shots aren't counted (same goes for Sid and FOW), but, still as close to undtradeable as you can get.

I'm pretty sure that Kovy has been on since Hammer pm'd him and got no response. Can anyone make a last effort to connect with him on whether he is in or out? I'd like to random.org EPF's team here soon so that the GM has some time to get acclimated and so that I can make trade offers to the new GM :)
