My father liked them so much he sent copies of all of them to me. They're good—well written with interesting characters. Too bad about the author.Admin wrote:Has anyone read the Stieg Larsson books (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc.)? Recommended?

Re: Current book being read/just finished
just finished Vernon God Little by D. B. C. Pierre. From a 15 yr olds pov, a dark comedy about a boy who is blamed for a school shooting masacre and how the media and people in the world view him. It takes a while to get used to the language, f word is used at least 1 time a sentence. Almost quit reading the book because the writing seemed almost foreign (after just finishing the 1st 3 song of fire and ice books) but I'm glad I stuck with it. One of the weirdest books I've ever read, one of the reviews said it's like huck finn meets south park, and I guess that's pretty accurate. You really can't tell if this thing is pure genious or garbage, but I really liked it in the end. check it out if you want something different.
So in the last few months, I've read 1st 3 song of fire and ice books, the name of the wind, and vernon god little. Anyone have any suggestions on a good fantasy type book, I loved name of the wind and looking for something similar? I might pick up Lovecrafts at the mountains of madness, but looking for something else... help please

All the Gladwell fans I know rave about this book, but everything I've ever been told about it seems to be a statement of the obvious.Letang Is The Truth wrote:just started reading malcolm gladwell's outliers. pretty good so far.

great perceptions from a great writer and a hardened traveler on so many different countries. gave me my first glimpses of what life is like in places like Turkmenistan, Cambodia, Hungary, Turkey and more. just like Dark Star Safari did with the entire east coast of africa.

Finished Point Omega by Don DeLillo (solid) and now read The Humbling by Philip Roth (solid). The classic manga series Lone Wolf & Cub is awesome, though. Great stuff. If you liked Kill Bill you should read Lady Snowblood.

Ghosts of Cannae- about Hannibals invasion of Italy and huge roman battle.
Saw the author on the Daily show and thought that could be cool. It's alright
but the authors writing style is a little hard to get use to.

Huh, I didn't know schools these days still assigned literature from dead white men. Are you being asked to critique them from the point of view of a one-legged African-American vegan lesbian, or something like that?danisu21 wrote:the taming of the shrew (shakespeare). leaves of grass (whitman).

The Five Love Languages, I have to read it for Marriage class. It's actually not a bad book.
