Current book being read/just finished

I just finished In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson. I know some here don't care for Bryson but I enjoy him and I liked this even better than A Walk In the Woods. My only complaints are that he barely covered Perth and the appendix on the Sydney Olympics wasn't very enjoyable.

I started Carry Me Across the Water by Ethan Canin during my lunch break today. He wrote two of my favorite books (Emperor of the Air & The Palace Thief) and so far I'm liking it.

Just purchased "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln". They are basing the movie on Lincoln set to come out in 2012 on this book. I am very interested in it to say the least because Daniel Day Lewis will be playing Lincoln.

Just started reading Stephen Coonts, first book in the Tommy Carmellini series. Definitely a different writing style, but I like it so far.

Flight of the Intruder and The Minotaur were both really good. The former was maybe a bit too nichey, but the latter was an excellent espionage story.

Plot Against America by Philip Roth. What if Charles Lindbergh beat FDR in 1940? What would the ramifications be for a Jewish family if a nominal anti-Semite became President? Great read.

If you're into counterfactual material, I suggest the "What If?" books.

Even though I've had it for about 14 years (since I stole it from the highschool library). It wasnt until now that Ive read, from cover to cover, "The rise and fall of the third reich" by William Shirer. I'm sort of glad i hadnt until now, I dont think I would have understood very much of what happened in the pre-war years.

The amount of information is staggering, I wish there were more of these for other intense periods of history.

Read that last summer; what's so good about it is that the author actually lived in Germany during the rise of the NAZI's and is able to describe these guys with first hand knowledge.

Anyone start reading the sequel to Name of the Wind, The Wise Man's Fear yet? Got a bunch of suggestions from here to read the first and now I'm 1/3 of the way through the new one, it's very good. It's jumping up to some of the best series I've ever read. Such a nice break from Fire and Ice, I'm actually enjoying this series more than GRRM's.

I'm about 70% through it, according to my Kindle...

Where the first one I felt it as a more mature Harry Potter, I feel like this is a fantasy version of Forrest Gump.

I just finished John Steigerwald's book. I actually really enjoyed it. Some stuff he says/believes is over the top or delusional, but he also has a lot of great stories and some outside of the box views that actually make sense.

Good read if you haven't read it yet.

As the title suggests, he takes the piss out of just about everyone in the restaurant industry.

i'm not a very good reader. I get very frustrated as i suffer from dyslexia (essentially for me, i can read, but i have to reread paragraphs and sentences a few times before i understand them, thus it gets to be quite time consuming) but i plan on trying to read a book that is in my interests to see if that helps at all. I'm going to start reading The Disappearing Spoon. I understand it goes into the backgrounds of some of the elements on the periodic table. So i think it should be a good read.
