"Sport" daily has sources who claim St. Petersburg is the final destination, and that the contract will be fully finalized by the end of the week:

Why not bring back Norm Maciver and Troy Murray while we are at it.

Now you're just being rediculous...Jiri Slegr is a much better choice than those guys.

There's a term for Jagr.

I believe it's "stick tease".

Well, I guess Jagr will get a tax-free contract again. But not really. Jagr actually pays taxes 2nd hand. It initailly goes to the casinos, and then they pay taxes on his losses to them. And he probably pays more taxes this way then if he were just to pay regular taxes. It's called the "stupid" tax. :face:

unlike ron cook...wrote an article todoay about not bringing jaromir back and not retiring his number... I do fully endorse Jaromir' s number being retired. Cook sites jaromir being asked to be traded in 2001, but dear cookie explain to me how CP signs mario, kovalev, straka , lang, and jaromir? Jaromir made it easy for craig patrick and mario to trade him. Again, who could the pens get for jagr that wouldn't command the same high salary. Cook was always a Barrasso guy; wonder if he thinks #35 should be retired?

He could use his political power to help the pens. :scared:

Trading Jagr and keeping Straka, Kovalev, and Lang worked out really well several years later when they had the chance to draft Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, and Staal.

That's mostly what the media thinks. It's a terrible way to think as well.

Other than the retiring of his number (I'm for it, but I can see why people are against it), I agree with Cook overall.

On one hand to would be cool to see Jagr in a Pens uniform again. On the other it would be really aggravating if he were to become a pain the a** again. The Pens don't need that. I have a hard time believing Jagr would be happy playing third or fourth fiddle on the team. The fact that he went to Russia to play in the first place says a lot to me.

I definitely want him to come back for the 91 reunion and have his number retired. He deserves that without question.

Which is why he alluded to playing with Crosby or Malkin in his quote after the World Championships. I for one don't see Jagr being a problem playing the Pens' Top Six.

He had a pretty nice top 6 when he left in 2001, and one of those people were his self proclaimed idol Mario Lemieux.

It's one thing to say things in the media, it's another to actually follow through.

Could he flourish and do well and blend in? Sure. Could he be a pain in the ass half way through the season? Possibly.

Many many players request trades when they feel their assets are wasted on a nose diving team, I don't condone it nor do I despise those who do.

It was obvious how much he has matured seeing him step up and lead the Rangers.

People can change, and Jagr deserves a second chance - the good outweighed the bad IMO!

If you're not a fan of talking to the media, you're a bad player in this town. Malkin for instance, is labeled a sulker because he doesn't speak to the media like the good little boy that he should.

That's not the reason Jagr gets a bad name in the media. It's one thing not to talk. It's another to make life difficult and miserable, which he did.

They absolutely were. Mario and Burkle re-organized the ownership in 1999. In 2001, he signed the biggest NHL contract ever. No way the Pens could have matched that, and were already far too invested to not get anything in return. Was the right thing to do at the time...

Maybe I miss understood you.

I was talking about on the ice. When Jagr requested the trade, the Pens still had a strong team, and Lemieux was on his way back, which was going to make the team even better.

And to be honest, I don't think Jagr requested the trade because of the off-ice issues the Pens were going to have in the future. I just think he wanted out, whether things were great or not.
