Shero says there have been no discussionsn within the Pens to bring Jagr back.
But that can't be right, I mean Rob Rossi said! And lots of other people wrote stuff on the internet about it! Shero is obviously lying until his plan to fully reconstruct the 1991 Cup championship team is complete.

Rob Rossi loves to float these misleading articles and then watch the rumors take off from there. He did the same thing with Malkin "not being traded" last year. no one was talking about Malkin getting traded anywhere until he comes out and says "Penguins say Malkin not going anywhere" and then everyone is talking about it. Rossi is a classic example of a sports reporter who wants to make himself part of the game, part of the story.

Hey Rob: Just cover the game, don't try and affect it.

Who do you guys feel is the best pens insider? I have followed Rossi's tweets and I agree completely with Sams Dog. Sorry if I'm changing direction of the thread!! I used to live in PGH but I moved to Dallas a few years ago, and I have lost touch with the good pens reporters

I'm consistently impressed with Rossi's ability to stay on top of Penguins news and rumors even though he hasn't relocated to Kansas City to be near them.

Sadly, I think there are truly some people out there that will take that quote and say exactly what you just said, and fully believe it.

Easily the most dominant? Err... He put up some good numbers, sure, but scoring was way up that year.

In 05-06, teams scored 6.17 goals per game (highest since 95-96) and featured:
2 players with 120+ points
7 players with 100+ points
5 players 50+ goals
37 players with 1 ppg or higher

Compare that with 10-11:
0 players with 120+ points
1 player with 100+ points
1 player with 50+ goals
15 players with 1 ppg or higher

Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, the Sedins and arguably Thornton (in 05-06) have had better seasons the past decade. Prior to 05-06, relative to other players those seasons, Lemieux, Iginla, Forsberg, St. Louis and Jagr himself had more dominant seasons.

Anyway, despite his strong season on 05-06, Jagr's final season with the Rangers was unpopular with fans. If you need evidence, read posts on Rangers forums from around that time. Other than almost winning the art ross in 05-06, he didn't really do much to leave a lasting positive impression.

What a base that most on is what I saw on ice. Jagr basicly did whatever he wanted to that season. Had Jagr himself been a sniper he could have gotten 70 goals.

I remember one game VS Flyers at the Garden, Jagr had a hattrick and just came soaring every shift. He could have had 7 or 8 that night.

I have watched every game the Pens have played since the lockout and Crosby and Malkin have never dominated the way Jagr did that year.

Maybe scoring was up that year, but I don´t think thats a very good argument to be honest. Comparing 1980 to 2005 would be off mark, but comparing 2006 to 2010, I would not say its that much of a difference.

The reason there was no high scoring players last season is there is no Jagr, no Lemieux, no Gretzky playing now. Crosby could have reached their level quite possibly, but you can not always explain a drop off in the Art Ross with simply that scoring was down.

As for the Rangers fans I did not notice much of that Jagr bashing and I was reading several places, but of course some were expecting him to put up 100 points as a 36 year old playing with a rookie Brandon Dubinsky and the likes of Sean Avery, Prucha and an aging Martin Straka.

Quite a difference, if you ask me.
Indeed. Should I refuse work in Japan for what they did at Pearl Harbor?
Are you arguing that Jagr is not a hypocrite? And do you wear a number 1942 on your back? About Japan, I hope you accept that offer ;). Peeks over shoulder, looking for a mob hit from the Soprano team.
I'm arguing that Soviet empire isn't the same as modern day Russia. Hell, I'm not even arguing it. I'm just stating an obvious fact.

There was a huge difference in 05-06 because seemingly half the players in the league weren't fit to play without clutching and grabbing; many players were too old and slow for the 'new nhl'. Large players who could stick handle and skate benefited disproportionately before teams adapted with mobile defenses.
As for the Rangers fans I did not notice much of that Jagr bashing and I was reading several places, but of course some were expecting him to put up 100 points as a 36 year old playing with a rookie Brandon Dubinsky and the likes of Sean Avery, Prucha and an aging Martin Straka.
Jagr has always selected unusual linemates. His reasoning, as I recall reading in the days of Hrdina and Miller, is that he prefers to play with those who will always give him the puck when he wants it. Dubinsky is arguably the best thing to come out of Jagr's time in New York.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think Jagr's 05-06 season will be remembered as the most dominant of that period. I don't think it's even in the top 10 of the past 10 years - but that's just my opinion.

I had a dream last night that I met Jagr at a bar and tried to sell him on coming back to the Penguins.
