Your comment regarding James Neal is why I discredit you and decided to not continue any further discussions.
James Neal has averaged 0.58 points per game in his NHL career. Is there a lot of potential upside with him? Absolutely. Are the Pens in a position to allow Neal another year or two or three to develop into a top-notch winger? No. They're in a position to win the Cup and win it now. I'm not suggesting they dump Neal. I'll go so far as to say that James Neal would fit nicely alongside Evgeni Malkin on the second line. But in 2011, with this team being a perennial favorite to win the Cup, is James Neal the scoring winger who we've been screaming Crosby needed since Marian Hossa left?

Let me repeat what I stated earlier: James Neal isn't that guy.

If you believe that statement to be a slight at Neal, so be it. It's not meant to be. It's only meant to be an honest evaluation of James Neal's current level. How many NHL teams would he serve as a top-line winger for? Better yet, how many elite NHL teams would he serve as a top-line winger for?

But that's okay. You continue your man-crush for James Neal. Discredit anyone who doesn't have the same man-crush you do and discontinue any discussions with anyone who doesn't feel the same way you do. Are you the guy whose parents always told him what he wanted to hear? Are you the guy who sits and rocks in a corner anytime someone dares to disagree? Grow up!
I can handle fans not being happy with Neal. I can handle people disagreeing with me. However, when I notice someone's thought process as being ridiculous, I don't engage.

It seems like one should judge Neal's performance as a scoring winger, once he has played with a play making center.
That hasn't happened - of course - in Pittsburgh.

I like how someone arguing on the internet tries to assert their maturity and tells others to grow up...haha, good stuff. Anyway...

If all it takes is 2.5 mill for Jagr, I would do it and make the room to fit him in. With the cap up it isn't that much of risk and could have a potential huge reward. I wouldn't mind even playing him like Mario near the end of his career where he purposely takes a few games off, misses a road trip or two, doesn't play back to back games.

Getting our PP up a tenth of a percent or so (so, about double) wouldn't hurt either :pop:

Detroit appears to have the inside track because Jagr is salivating at the opportunity to play with Pavel Datsuyk and Henrik Zetterberg. But reports also suggest that Jagr really wants to/needs to cash in on a major pay day.

If that's the case, don't expect Detroit to sign him. The Wings are smarting from the Mike Modano experiment. They're apprehensive about signing aging veterans who are susceptible to injury and a diminishing skill set.

Really? They've done well with old battered NHL veteran reclamation projects...Brett Hull etc. Until Modano that is.

I would imagine they would have tons of cap space if Lidstrom retires though. I'm not sure Jagr is a Babcockian type of player though.

What a powerplay up front though with Jagr, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg...yikes.

There was talk about him having a gambling problem back in the day. Lots of pro athletes end up broke due to lavish lifestyles and poor financial management.

He's had tax / gambling problems his whole career

For an athlete who makes his living on the ice, Jaromir Jagr spends a lot of time in hot water. In August the IRS filed a lien against the Capitals wing, saying he owed about $350,000 in taxes for 1999, when he played for the Penguins and earned $10 million. According to his management agency, IMG, Jagr satisfied that debt as soon as he learned of it. Then on Feb. 28 the IRS filed a lien stating that the Czech native, now in the second year of a seven-year, $78 million contract, owes about $3.3 million in taxes for 2001. And these aren't the first financial missteps for the 31-year-old Jagr. Several years ago he owed more than $500,000 to an Internet gambling company.

A source who was close to Jagr when the five-time scoring champ played for Pittsburgh says Jagr gambled mostly on football. There is no indication that Jagr bet on hockey—a violation of NHL rules that would be punishable at the commissioner's discretion—but his losses are laid out in a June 2000 agreement with a Belize-based gambling website called CaribSports. A document obtained by SI shows that Jagr proposed making nine monthly payments of $37500 and one lump-sum payment of $112,500, a total of $450,000, after the site's owner, William Caesar, discounted his debt Jagr, who got a line of credit from the site in '97, made several payments, then stopped, according to Caesar, who says he then made little effort to collect for two years. Last April, as a way to pressure Jagr to pay, Caesar leaked the story to buzzdaly.com, a webzine that covers the gambling industry. He says he immediately received "a little more than 20 percent" of the balance from Jagr's lawyers—an amount he says he accepted as the final payment.

Jagr will go to Detroit, and the Pens will beat them in the Cup next year.

Then in the offseason, Jagr will come here and say he feels like it gives him the best shot to win.

According to capgeek:
Rangers- 18.4M cap space, 8 forwards signed, 3 defensmen, 2 goalies
Red Wings- 17.5M cap space, 12 forwards signed, 3 defensmen , 1 goalie
Capitals- 8.5M cap space, 10 forwards signed, 7 defensmen, 1 goalie
Canadiens- 18.1M cap space, 8 forwards signed, 4 defensmen, 1 goalie
Penguins- 2.5M cap space, 10 forwards signed, 7 defensmen, 2 goalies.

This is with the current salary cap before it is raised.

I personally think he will go to the Habs if he comes back to the NHL unless some time really attempts a bidding war.
