Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
It's funny. Obviously the concern over aging veterans is troubling. But every now and then, you have that aging veteran that can turn it on. Obviously Kovalev did not. Then you have Recchi, who at 43 had a very respectable season and a great playoff run to help Boston win the Cup. It's definitely a huge risk/reward proposition.

Leonsis wrote that in an email to me in 08. I highly doubt Jagr wants to return to DC.We got nothing for him and I had to pay the Rangers to take him:-). And I was and am thrilled-- he is poison--worst guy of all time. Ted

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
This is probably wasted thought I'm putting into this, since I ultimately still think he stays in the KHL, but here it goes.
I don't think Detroit is a good fit. Even if Lidstrom comes back, they have some serious shoring up to do on defense, and I bet Holland is smart enough to realize this and prioritize this area. Maybe if they are able to sign a couple solid d-men and still have the money, they would take a run at Jagr, but I see the D as their biggest issue to address.
I would bet that his departure from Washington was bitter enough that neither side would be real keen on revisiting that. I know his departure from Pittsburgh was bad too, but that was longer ago, with a different GM, and there are more positive memories in Pittsburgh to balance out the bad ones from the end of his time here.
Montreal and the Rangers have the money and the need for more offense. I don't think there would be as much of a clash with coaching with the Rangers as others apparently. I know Tortarella is notorious for his conditioning regime, but Jagr seems to work hard when is happy, which he seemed to be there. The biggest drawback for him with either Montreal or the Rangers is that I don't think either will be able to do enough in the off-season to be legit cup contenders next year. I would bet it's still going to be the same four teams in the East (Pens, Bruins, Flyers, and Caps) who will end up on top. What would be the point of coming back to the NHL for less money than the KHL but no more than an outside shot at the Cup?

Jagr could care less about signing in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Washington, New York or Montreal:

I am ignoring all Jagr stories from now on until he signs his contract with the Pens.

In my opinion, Jagr will go to the highest bidder. That definitely won't be the Pens.

Madden reported this rumor is still alive.
Meaning, he's not coming back. He'll end up in NY or DET.

"I've talked to Montreal, I've talked to Detroit, a few other teams called once they found out he was ready to go to [the] NHL," Svoboda told ESPN.com. "
Svoboda, meanwhile, said Pittsburgh was not among the teams he had spoken with as of Friday morning.

If he wanted to maximize his income, he wouldn't be considering the NHL. Remember, he doesn't have to pay taxes if he plays in the KHL.Desiato wrote:In my opinion, Jagr will go to the highest bidder. That definitely won't be the Pens.

He has one option in the KHL, by all accounts. I can't imagine, knowing they have nobody else bidding for his services, that Avangard is going out of its way to just pay Jagr handsomely.jeffshly wrote:If he wanted to maximize his income, he wouldn't be considering the NHL. Federal taxes, yes. I have a feeling he pays "taxes" to the same guys hasek did or this wouldn't be happening...tonysoprano wrote:He has one option in the KHL, by all accounts. Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
According to other sources all five of the mentioned teams (NYR, Mon, Det, Was and Pit) want him. Jagr himself sais he´ll make up his mind pretty soon and that he likes the challenge as he thinks some people doesn´t think he´ll be able to make in the NHL again.

If Mario is in contact with him how could that not be a huge factor favouring the Pens.spiritfan wrote:yep... this thread will end by Monday... Jagr gonna decide by then... kinda funny its all quiet on the Pens front with this... Mario involved?
No disturbing captiancy, 15 min per game with like 90 secs of each PP. Do it Shero.

If you read several of the articles that were posted, his agent alludes to the fact that they're probably making a decision this weekend. Still, I don't think he can sign until July 1 if I'm not mistaken.Lesky wrote:Who says monday is the deadline?spiritfan wrote:yep... this thread will end by Monday... Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Contrary to reports Thursday out of Detroit, no one representing Jaromir Jagr has contacted the Penguins to see if they might be interested in signing him. "We have not heard from anybody," Shero said. The Detroit stories said Jagr's agents have approached several teams -- the Penguins, Red Wings, New York Rangers and Montreal were the ones identified -- to gauge whether any might want to add him to their roster, and several indicated the Red Wings might be. The Penguins' only interest in Jagr to this point has been to try to get him to return for a reunion of their 1991 Stanley Cup-winning club later this summer.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I would take Jagr back in a heartbeat, as long as the price is right. There is no doubt he can still produce, and he'd definitely be productive with Sid/Geno. Plus, I personally think it would be good for him to mend his relationship with the fans. Jagr is a key piece to the wonderful story that is the history of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it would only seem fitting that he rides off into the sunset on good terms.
The question is, what are his intentions for coming back? Is it to have a last "hurrah" in the NHL and maybe win a Cup, or is it to cash in? If it is to win, Pittsburgh should be a top choice. If it is to cash in, not so much.

I thought Mark Madden said it was a done deal.
