Do people really think Talbot is gonna get more than $2M? He's a good penalty killer and is good in the locker room, but seriously over $2M for a guy who had 8 goals and 21 points last year? He barely deserves a raise from his current contract let alone doubling it.

Please. God. No.

He had his chance here for many years as #1 and failed.

Pens have a new set of superstars and don't need a washed up one to screw things up now.

Enough problems already with Sid & Geno coming back from injuries to deal with, don't need his poor attitude hanging around to make things worse.

He is not even close to the same player he used to be, that is why he ran off to the KHL for 3 years.

He went to the KHL for tax free money.

Detroit signed Lidstrom for one year at $6.2M. Does this affect their ability to partake in the Jagr Sweepstakes?

No. They have an extra $6m or so available because of Rafalski retiring. They need to get at least 1 if not 2 good dmen before the season starts though. Ericsson may not be back.

It's no surprise that Detroit is interested in Jagr. At age 39, he'd be one of their hottest young prospects.

I seriously hope this happens but i will have a hard time believing this until i actually see the press release that he's signed with us. Jagr has never taken less to go somewhere and until i see otherwise, i'll remain skeptical.

Also, in the articles i have seen, it seems like you are never hearing anything but that fact that jagr's camp has reached out to the red wings and the pens along with others. Why are the pens suddenly the front runners for this? Does someone have a quote from the front office of the Pens or from Jagr's agent that the Pens are his team of choice against the few others they have spoken to?

I really hope this happens and for less than 3 million but the words "Jagr" and "less money" being in the same sentence has me keeping from getting my hopes up.

Unconfirmed whispers:

[*]Reports are that Jagr himself reached out to Pittsburgh Penguin's GM Ray Shero
[*]His Agent has also been negotiating with the Penguins
[*]Mario Lemieux is now reportedly involved in the negotiations according to Mark Madden
[*]Rob Rossi reports that Jagr and his camp are saying Pittsburgh is his #1 choice

Shelly Anderson doesn't think it will happen, which means it's probably a done deal or very close to one.

If Kennedy wants more than 2mil and Jagr takes less than 3 I trade TK's rights and sign Jagr.

Well, when I do the same via google I am not directed to the article but to the place to sign up for PLUS. Is it different for me because I am in Sweden?

I am hoping Jagr to the Pens happens, but Shelley's point about an 82 game + playoffs season is one that has been raised here many times and is certainly valid. But injuries and streaks can't be predicted when signing any player.

I asking House O Hockey today if they can customize some Edge Jagr jerseys for me - I am sure that will influence Jagr to sign with the Pens :) (Did not work that well with Forsberg though)

It was nice to see Kovy back in Pittsburgh and a Pens uniform he was always one of my favorites. But we kinda all know his best days were gone. Now Jagr was my all time favorite, i grew up when he was the NHL dominant force, but i kinda want to remember him like that and not see him do a Kovalev and stink the joint up.

Jagr was a puck hog and for good reason, give him the puck and let him go, can he be the guy who gives the puck away and joins the rush instead of wanting to lead it? We got young legs who can do this. Guerin was a great fit cause he knew that. I get the feeling Jagr will be his old self. But i couldn't stand seeing him play for Detroit.

Any Jagr to Kovalev comparisons should stop once you say they're similar in age. While Kovy was disappearing in the latter half of the Lightning series, Jagr was torching the USA in the World Championships. I trust Jagr and his agent when they say he still has a lot to give. Kovalev was clearly on E.

Jagr plays a puck possession game, just like the Bylsma led Pens. I can see him clogging it up against wall and working in the cycle very well. That was never Kovy's game, and that is why he didn't work here.

Let's look at this from a few points of view.

~~~dreamweaver sequence~~~~~~
GMRS: WTF? Jagr back here in da burgh? He was an overpriced slacker when he last played in the NHL. What's he done since then? Hmm, not bad numbers in Russia... Wow, played really good in recent world championships, just won Czech hockey player of the year.... Okay, I'll talk to Agent Svoboda. Mario, what do you think? If the price is right.... okay.
Mario: WTF mullet boy? You want to come back here after you stabbed us in the back? Will you sign a contract heavy in incentives, and we can trade your sorry pizza if you don't perform as expected?" Okay, I'm willing to give you a chance, but don't ask for too much. And you have to convince the management team.
HCDB: Wow, a guy who can actually score on the wing. We sure could use a guy like that. PPlay might benefit. Hmm, his mental game looks to have gotten better. I think I can work with him, sure, see if you can bring him in. I can work on his postive mental game.
Jagr: Well, looks like I've milked the Ruskies for all I'm going to get. I really would like to retire on top, and my best years were in Pittsburgh. I left on bad terms, it was a bad time in my life and hell, its not too late to correct that. I'll go back there and play for a fair salary, and hopefully win like my old buddy Recchi.
~~end dreamweaver sequence~~~~~~~
Okay, so its fantasy, but who knows, but if he comes back, I'll cheer loudly for him.
