So Pens are opening pre-season with the Wings at Consol again this year, eh? :P

You're so right... our team's overall speed is simply off-the-chart.... LOL
What a dumb argument. Like you can get any slower than Guerin or Satan, or even Letestu on one leg last season for that matter. :pop:
Bob i was quoting someone else's post... thus the sarcasm[/quote]

Marek, I know. Not sure who you quoted but I know it wasn't you. Just that when you quoted the brackets were messed up.

I always thought Jagr took too much grief for his departure. He carried the Pens through the mid-late 90s. He even had 3 great assists in Game 7 vs BUF to get the Pens to the Conf Finals in 01.

Euros grow up following European football (soccer) so they come from a culture where players can basically dictate when they want to move onto another club. Jagr gave the Pens 10 mostly exceptional years of service. I'd even say Malkin has had more subpar time as a Penguin than Jagr based on his decline the past 2 seasons, but I digress.

That said, Jagr is too slow of a skater to play on the current Pens IMO. Plus he isn't a traditional Wing. He also needs the puck to be effective. I don't think that would mesh well with Crosby or Malkin.

Detroit is a very good fit for Jagr. They aren't a fast skating team, but they play a high tempo, puck possession game.
Great players find a way to work well with other great players. I'd rather take my chances on Jagr meshing well with Crosby than Dupuis flubbing 50 glorious scoring chances per shift.

At 2 mil, is there even a reason for hesitation? That would give us around 5 million to sign 3 players. Great contract for a high risk/extremely high reward player.

I seriously can't even express how much I want to see Jagr lace up as a Pen again. I haven't been this giddy since I first heard a rumor about the Pens having interest in Hossa.
If he had wanted to play for Oilers or Winnepeg and I was a GM there I'd have offered up to 4 million for him or so. So anything under 3 is very acceptable I think for Pens.

It's a 1 year contract that could lessen the impact of loosing several veteran players this year and give them some time to groom Jeffrey or someone else to be a top 6 forward in 2012-2013 season

Svoboda had been scheduled to hold a phone conversation with Penguins general manager Ray Shero to talk about whatever interest Shero has in adding Jagr to his depth chart, but, as of late evening in Prague, where Svoboda is based, the two still had not gotten together.

Svoboda, though, said he had talked to Shero Monday and that someone from the Penguins had "communicated with [Jagr]" Tuesday.

Shero, through the team's media-relations department, declined interview requests for the second consecutive day.

Coach Dan Bylsma, speaking at a media-availability session Tuesday evening in Las Vegas, where the NHL awards ceremony will be held tonight, said that neither he nor anyone else from the team has spoken with Jagr, although that likely could have been done without his knowledge.

Yes this is strange... I wonder how "in the loop" GMRS keeps HCDB about what he's doing. Does a GM usually ask the coach about decisions like this or not? Would DB know if Shero has talked with JJ or not?

Kovacevic: Bring back Jaromir Jagr
At the World Championships in Slovakia last month, Jagr registered a hat trick against the United States, including a breathtaking rink-length rush.

I asked Chris Johnston, the Canadian Press reporter on the scene in Bratislava, to share his view.

"He remains a strong man and, while far from speedy, still has a knack for being in the right place on the ice," Johnston said. "I'm confident he'd still be of use on a NHL power play, at the very least. And my impression after speaking with him there is that he's still very driven to play. His off-ice work ethic borders on legendary."

No surprise, considering Jagr used to say here that he'd play until he was 50.

And that's the other difference: He has grown up. Gone is that mullet-haired teen who collected speeding tickets, the 25-year-old with the giant gambling debt, and the man-child who bought his ticket out of town by declaring he was "dying alive" during a scoring slump. In recent years, he has shaken the hands of presidents, called news conferences in Prague to announce political endorsements and served as the Czechs' flag-bearer at Vancouver's opening ceremonies.

Does that sound like an immature brat?

Some might wonder if he could handle playing second or third fiddle in Pittsburgh. The way I see it, if he finds extra motivation in wanting to perform in the Crosby/Malkin stratosphere, hey, great. If he finds extra motivation in wanting to add to his legacy in Pittsburgh and in the NHL, that's fine, too.

Few things in hockey history have been more entertaining than a motivated Jagr.

Remember Reechi was also accused of being a lockeroom cancer back in 2006 and 2007 - he was taking a pounding from the media and teammates - even the fans were all over him saying he was sucking the life out of the team.

Look where Reechi is today - and remember where he was 2007 :thumb:

Statement from Recchis agent Rick Curran via radio

Transcript

The victim in this case - Mark Recchi

Regarding the nasty comments about Mark made by media ans fans all over the world:

Regretfully, we are compelled to vigorously respond to numerous and false statements being made about Mr.Recchi.

Mr.Recchi was recognized as hockey genius as a child. His life and development were devoted to cultivating his hockey skills and extraordinary tactical gifts. Discipline, hard work, and a desire to win and better teams through his creativity were emphasized throughout his youth.

It was recognized very early that Mr.Recchi talents and genius could generate many millions of dollars to him and the clubs who hired him. From the time he signed his first contract others have sought to exploit and take advantage of his creative talent and innovative mindset.

Throughout his career, Mr.Recchis desire to create and help our world has been subjected to efforts to exploit, undermine and take advantage of this giving human being.

Mr.Recchi lives in a world where his privacy is continually violated.

Hate fuels hate and Mr.Recchi now realizes that he needs to fight back. Mr.Reechi will fight back against all those so called fans who now tries to besmudge his reputation.

We will not tolerate this, these are serious accusations, about Mark being a cry baby and lockerroom cancer.

I managed to get some direct quotes too:

"We are going to retaliate, and I´ve been given full authority to. We will land on you like a ton of bricks, we will land on you like a hammer. If anyone does anything to in some way hurt Mr.Recchis, there will be vengance."

"If someone does anything to intrude on the private matters any way thats actionable, we will unleash a hell like you´re never seen before."

"Point is you can not abuse and you can not spread untrue rumours about Mark Recchi."

"I´m here to tell you right now that Mr.Recchi are going to fight these attacks with every resource he has. I´m here to tell you right now that we will not be afraid to use ugly measurs in terms of defending Mr.Recchi and his family."

"I will tell you right now that there is no way that we will stand for this kind of defamation, there is no way these people will get away with their vicious attacks against Mark"

"These evil human beings are going to have to watch they´re backs at all times, and they should be frightened, because we will seek payback, and it will not be pretty"

"Mark Recchi is a future hall of famer and does not deserve to go through all of this."

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hey, if they wanna bring him back, have his pro playing career come full circle, aren’t expecting much out of him (I find the notion of a 39-year-old Jagr playing an entire, grinding 82-game schedule on the Crosby line to be laughable) and won’t spend much to sign him, then why not give it a shot as long as expectations are realistic. The cynic in me still considers this dance to be a ploy by the Jagr camp to try to wrangle more money out of a KHL team. And spare me the **** about how he’d be a “force” playing for the Penguins or Red Wings. Yeah, he’ll have his moments, but folks who believe he’ll be a game-breaking star must wake up and smell the fresh ground aroma.

Svoboda is ensuring that the media and fans whip things into a frenzy and Angent Petr Svoboda will get a good deal for his client Jagr.

If your TK's Agent, your thinking what the pizza is going on. A RW outta no where, who could take some of the money that would be spent on TK. TK wants to play in Pittsburgh, and he wants to win. Having Jagr on an already great squad improves those chances. This makes TK's situation very interesting from their point of view. If the Jagr situation drags on, then deadlines really loom. The Pens do not want to send TK to arbitration for fear he gets a stupid arbitration award that they can't or won't pay.

What if TK's camp came and said, "Sign Jagr and me for $2M each"??? Everybody wins? I don't know, but the following quote seems appropriate; "This is a very complicated case. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. And, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Fortunately, I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber."

Meh. I am from the camp that believes if Jagr signs here (let me just clarify, however, that I really don't think it'll happen), he'll put up 30 goals.

30 goals at $2 mil > Dupuis' 37 pts. at $1.4 mil.

If the Pens sign Jagr, I don't expect him to be the Jagr of the 1990s. I expect him to be a lot better than Kovalev was this spring, and I expect him to be somewhat better than Mark Recchi was this spring.

I think Pens should offer Jagr at least 2-2.5M per year, maybe could afford even 3M.. It would be nice to see Jags finish his career here.
We have -what- 7.5M to spend for 4 F? soo Jagr 3M, TK 2M, Jeffrey 0.800K, Rupp 0.850K and some cap space..
Kunitz - Crosby - Jagr
Neal - Malkin - Jeffrey
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy
Adams - Letestu - Rupp

Haha, the Jagr bashers love to suggest (though it hasn't been suggested anywhere) that if someone wants Jagr on the team and is excited about the possibility, they must think he's going to be a "gamebreaking star" (Spector). There's so much room between this strawman "game breaking star" and a total putz distraction but most people just want to talk about the poles.
