Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Speaking of, I realized last weekend that I have a 22 of ST Pumking down in the basement from last year. I thought it was empty and there's it been for the past year or so. Wonder how it'll be.Kraftster wrote:Pumking is the only pumpkin beer for me anymore.

Yeah, that's tops for me as well. Although the Michigan Brewing Screamin Pumpkin is a solid 2nd.topshelf wrote:Is it Southern Tier? I'll have to see if I can find one.Kraftster wrote:Pumking is the only pumpkin beer for me anymore.

What's the abv? If it is 9% or higher, you're probably good to go. I'm interested to hear how it tastes!Kraftster wrote:Speaking of, I realized last weekend that I have a 22 of ST Pumking down in the basement from last year. Right around 9% I think. I'm planning to drink in this weekend.topshelf wrote:What's the abv? If it is 9% or higher, you're probably good to go. I haven't had more than two or three pumpkin beers (the most recent was a Sam Adams pumpkin beer), but they all have sucked.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
It really depends on what you get, I think some pumpkin beers are pretty bad. I think you need high abv or else its too sweet. Southern Tier Pumking on draft with the rim of the glass dipped in cinnamon and sugar. Yum.shafnutz05 wrote:I've never had pumpkin beer...is it really overwhelming sweet/pumpkiny flavor?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Yeah, I really don't like actual pumpkins, but a good pumpkin beer is right up there with my favorites.
As previously mentioned, Southern Tier Pumking is the gold standard, I've never had another beer like it -- such an interesting finish. I really like the Michigan Screaming Pumpkin as well. And Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale is also solid. Dogfish's is decent, but doesn't quite compare with the others listed above.
Some are bad though like Krafster said and give pumpkin beers a bad rap.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Sam Adams' Pumpkin Beer is terrible. Sam Adams is really hit or miss as a whole. Some are great (Octoberfest, Wee Heavy, etc.), and some... not so much (Noble Pils, Infinium, etc.).slappybrown wrote:I haven't had more than two or three pumpkin beers (the most recent was a Sam Adams pumpkin beer), but they all have sucked.
Unfortunately, New Belgium does not distribute to Florida. That being said, the brewers at New Belgium traveled to Belgium years ago and tried a beer named "Palm", which they fell in love with and tried to replicate when they arrived back at the brewery. The end result? Fat Tire. So, if you ever get the opportunity to try/pick up a 4 pack of "Palm", do it. You won't be disappointed, and, after all, it was the inspiration for Fat Tire.whgnailer10 wrote:Fat Tire.

Yeah, you only missed like the last 20 pagestopshelf wrote:BTW... I can't believe I completely missed this thread. I guess I spend too much time in the "Pens Related" forum. I just left a job as an account manager for the Florida Distributing Company (a huge distributor out of Orlando) to teach, but I love talking beer.
I just opened my DFH Namaste last week. Awesome beer.

Just goof'n topshelf, what 'ca gonna be doing now?

I teach now, but I still love beer talk. I have a Sam Adams Stony Brook Red, DFH ******** Brew, and a DFH Black and Blue waiting to be opened. I have a ton that I have already enjoyed (or choked down, lol).ExPatriatePen wrote:Yeah, you only missed like the last 20 pagestopshelf wrote:BTW... I can't believe I completely missed this thread. Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
DFH pumpkin beer is good. ST is definitely the gold standard. I think there are specifici differences in the way that they are made, because some pumpkin beers are absolutely disgusting. I think those just add flavor and spices, the good ones are the ones that are brewed with actual pumpkin. I remember talking to a brewer at Church Brew Works one night there and he was saying that about their brewing process that one year they got a bunch of pumpkins and made it that way, but then the next year they made it with the canned stuff and it wasn't nearly as good.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Southern Tier's Pumking is now in the area. I got a case last night at the Save more Beer & Pop Warehouse across the Homestead Grays Bridge. They were the first in the city to have it, should hit most other outlets today or tomorrow. Depends on their delivery schedule
And as Topshelf indicated earlier in the thread, Palm is mighty tasty. Highly recommend it. And Spaten Oktoberfest too.
I just love this time of year for beer, so many choices, so little time

I had it once out of the can, and i didn't like it at all.
I'd like to try it on draft sometime, but it might be hard to find that out here.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I'm not fond of watermelon to begin with, so the thought of it in beer makes me feel nauseous.
