The DOW cannot stay above 12000 for more than 2 days. New rule I guess.

Probably the best illustrations of debt flows among countries I have ever seen:

SHhhhhhhhh... Just don't mention the European Union or the Euro.JeffDFD wrote:yeah, drop a few hundred points for a few days and then go up a couple hundred

Lately, the way to make money in this market has been to go short index futures on up days like this.
We'll see.

If you're talking about the "pull forward" effect, I'd say your concerns are well founded.thehockeyguru wrote:Curious as to how much of that spending went on credit cards?KennyTheKangaroo wrote:well, the market has responded enthusiastically to the positive news regarding consumer spending and scuh

Re: Stock Market
"Good" news out of Europe today:
Others not so positive:
What say you financial people around here? I don't understand all this as well as some of you, but when I see "Good news, more bailouts and loans" - I don't look at it too positively.
(that CNN article changes throughout the day and it looks like the part I quoted may already be gone)
The gains followed a rally in European markets, as reports said eurozone finance ministers have approved an increase to the region's bailout fund, and may potentially receive help from the IMF.

The bailout in Europe is similar to giving blood transfusions to a person in need of a turnaqit.

Barely, but the first 3-day above-12,000 finish in some time. I haven't sold anything since 2009, but I am still affraid to buy more.JeffDFD wrote:The DOW cannot stay above 12000 for more than 2 days. New rule I guess.

It's only good news in as much as it's good for the guy in debt up to his armpits just got approved for another credit card to, you know, cover his credit debt...JeffDFD wrote:"Good" news out of Europe today:

When you see "IMF" in reference to Europe, make sure you read that as "YOU".

Re: Stock Market
So are we going DOWN DOWN DOWN tomorrow?
I was up 16% on CU.. I should have sold before the close last night. Damn for being greedy before Euro news comes out.. Should have took my profits and sat on the sidelines until the next headline landslide..

Re: Stock Market
Solid gains today, erasing a week or so of down days.
guess they forgot about Europe for a second.
Seems only a matter of time before I see "European uncertainty weighs on market" or something similar and it goes down below 12000 again.
Although last time above 12000 it did stay there for more than 2 days...that was new!

Re: Stock Market
kenny the kangaroo made a nice little profit betting against the VIX this month. using kenny the kagnaroos powers of deduction, it was determined that the market is less volitile when people are counting down the days to christmas and new years. result: a tidy 24% profit.
conclusion: derivitives can be your friend, sometimes.

When will Europe have a liquidation sale and close so a Walgreen's and Starbucks and a Bank can take its place and the market can move on? haha!

Re: Stock Market
You joke, but I've been saying for quite sometime that indecision over the EU is what's killing the market. Make a decision, whatever the outcome the market will adjust and respond and move forward. The worst thing is this wishy washy stuff. The market hates uncertainty.JeffDFD wrote:When will Europe have a liquidation sale and close so a Walgreen's and Starbucks and a Bank can take its place and the market can move on? haha!

Re: Stock Market
Nailed it. The euro hit a 15 month low I believe on Friday of last week. Even when information comes out of Europe that should be helpful to the eurozone, the uncertainty is still killing it. Investors aren't going to bank on the uncertainty of the euro. Rather, they'll continue to resort to the safe haven currencys, like the dollar. If they would make a move, and just go with it, I think it would help in the long run. The Euro would likeley immidiately tank with knee jerk reactions, but it would correct itself overtime. I still think Greece needs to gtfo.ExPatriatePen wrote:You joke, but I've been saying for quite sometime that indecision over the EU is what's killing the market.
