Oh... nope. Well, I didn't like Orwell either. Not sure exactly why both Huxley and Orwell leave me cold.

I love Huxley probably for the same reason you hate him. I don't align myself with his vision but its his observations in present time I respect

So if I am looking for fiction, something easy to read, cool, what do you recommend for a mid 20s dude?
I plan on reading Huck Finn, but after that, any good series out there which are relatively easy to read?

I am trying to get to the library to borrow The Long Walk by Richard Bachman....I usually enjoy King's stabs at post-apocalyptic fiction.

I also got the urge to read The Dark is Rising series again...throwback to 6th grade.

60sixx, I just picked up the first book of that series after Christmas. I'm about halfway through. When I started it, I thought it was going to be a hard read. The first few chapters, before she goes back, were just so boring.

But now, I can barely put it down. I'm glad I picked it up, but now I have to go buy the others.

Start reading the Brad Thor books. Action-packed, intrigue, policital craziness. They're really really good.

I highly recommend the Matthew Reilly series of books....insanely entertaining, like a 500 page 24 episode, complete with crazy destinations, dungeons, traps, etc.

Fiction? Action, easy read, sci-fi/crime drama, any of that. When I was young I used to read the Redwall series, which was cool.

Thanks, perhaps I will, though I am catching up on the series (I've seen two episodes and have four more on DVD).

After watching Dexter, I honestly feel like ditching all my current shows (Law and Order, Criminal Minds) and just watching them to catch up.
I love how it is 50 minutes, no commercials.

Criminal Minds isnt terrible, but it isnt good either. you can say that for most, if not all of crime-centered 'drama' on basic cable nowadays. there are only so many times you can re-hash the same gimmicks and it being "shocking" or intense.

YAY! Someone else that loves it! I was the same way when I first started reading it....I was all "WTF IS this?!?"....but then once I got into it, WOW...loved it. I actually went back and read it again recently, because I know I had skimmed through or not paid attention to some stuff when I started it originally. Upon re-reading it, the beginning stuff wasn't so boring.

Dragonfly in Amber (2nd book) and Voyager (3rd book) were pretty good too. I'm at the point where I don't necessarily like the path the story has taken, so I'm finding it difficult to keep going. But I HAVE to know what happens to Jamie & Claire...so I'll get back to it at some point. :D

I LOVED The Hunger Games! Wasn't sure it would be my cup of tea based on the synopsis, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised! :thumb:

Just started the second book as well.

The funny story is that I picked it up, read the back cover and went "Someone stole my idea!" It wasn't quite the same as the idea I had (and actually started writing at one point), so I decided I HAD to buy it and check it out. I'm just past the part where Jamie takes Claire to Lallybroch, and his sister beats the crap out of him. Loved that.

Love it too--Jenny's a great character. :D :D

I'll be interested to see what you think of all of the stuff that happens....you're almost there.
