Wedding Planning Thread

Post by mac5155 »

I need some solace. So I'm making a thread.

We're starting to plan our wedding. Its a year and a half away. We're already running into trouble finding photographers. WTF

This, we saved a fortune just buying it a year in advance and holding it.

I reccomend renting glassware for the reception. Unless you're going for the red solo cup atmosphere.

You'll realize that a lot of people book stuff well in advance. You'll start off early, get a bunch done. Do nothing for a while, and then hit a rush at the last minute.

Unfortunately in the Philthadelphia area. Didn't have much of a say in that one. :(

It literally disgusts me to see how much cheaper weddings are around here. The two places we're down to right now (which were the cheapest we found in the area) are around $85/person. Granted, this includes everything except for photographer and DJ.

Edit: And the barn is great, I went to a wedding there once.

Wedding is this September, I cannot wait until the planning is done.

We started just over 2 years in advance and still had to switch weekends because the church and reception facility (local golf course) weren't available the same day. Still haven't been able to find a videographer, I'm not sweating it but the fiancée is. Other than that it's just all the little minor stuff left.

You will have to let me know how it goes. Apparently our caterer is the exclusive operator of the place. He's really awesome. Actually is a retired mayor of Scottdale so as a retired mayor he can legally marry us too (but I think we will go somewhere else for that).

He said they are doing a ton of renovations on the building this winter and should be done by 2012 wedding season. I can't wait to see what they've done.

The caterer currently has me quoted at $11,000ish for food and venue for 220 people.

Yeah I guess maybe not as huge of a price difference as I thought. Right now we're looking at about $14,000 - $15,000 for 175 for food, booze, venue, non-personal flowers (so we just need the bouquets and whatnot) and the ceremony on-site.

No middle ground on Photog's. Its either someone that can't charge much that will send you a DVD with a million shots with no filter for $1k or a professional with a crew, designers, and a site where you and your parents can purchase the pictures (because they own the copyright for 18 months) for $10k.

Keep asking for referrals. You pay for what you get, but you will find someone that needs the work.

That is what I am finding. and it's frustrating. One person we asked said "so and so was great" and another person said that same person "was worse than my high school yearbook editor"
