I desperately wanted to go with Jimmerson at our wedding, turns out it was like close to 4-5k for us to get him.

It would be awesome, though.
I think we are going with R & R Productions for the DJ. They have a ton of good reviews and are local folks too.

Re: Wedding Planning Thread
We hired a guy(working on getting his name) that turned out to be fantastic, did all that we wanted, and everyone had a great time(per the shad gif) and the apparent pictures of canaan. He was also VERY fairly priced, brought props, lights, did everything. He was set up in and hour and down in an hour, just a great dude.mac5155 wrote:Well nevermindMalkamaniac wrote:I desperately wanted to go with Jimmerson at our wedding, turns out it was like close to 4-5k for us to get him.

Re: Wedding Planning Thread
Oooookkkk here's what I have assuming you want to spend ~8k on the reception. This doesn't include photographer, dj, blah blah etc. It's just the place and for about 150ish people.Letang Is The Truth wrote:where is everyone getting hitched? fiancee and i are looking for probably late 2014/early 2015 date so hopefully we will have our choice of venues
Lake View in Greensburg - pretty dated. splits the two downstairs room with a divider. One room when divided has no windows but is beautiful. The other room has windows but has bad head table placement. If you have 220 plus people the upstairs room is pretty bomb but overall the place is pretty dated but not terrible. Buy booze from them. http://www.ferranteslakeview.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Banquets Unlimited - crap, seriously crap. The place is old, rundown, ceilings are low. Just not a very good place. Had to get the booze from them. http://www.banquetsunlimitedpa.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Strategos - Very very nice place. Only downfall is they seem to nickle and dime you for every little thing. Had to buy booze there. Oh and for a Saturday wedding you had to have I believe at least 200+ people and prices were pretty expensive for a Saturday. Friday weddings were pretty decently priced though. http://www.stratigosbanquet.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Riverside Landing - Pretty nice. Includes beer 3 kinds lots of selection bring your own liquor. Good view over the River. The room in the church across the street was also very nice but needed 200+ people.
George Town Center - DISGUSTING. Plus very small. It was very old and dirty when we looked at it. Plus they section off the rooms and it was super cramped. Website is super deceiving. http://georgetowncentre.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Harmar House - Little dated but not bad. Good food, looks nice when all decorated. Supplies chair covers and alcohol. The actual reception room is separate from the bar area which takes away from the event. http://www.harmarhouse.com/default.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Magnolia Room - This one was the winner for my fiancee and I. Really just the only place we went in and said, "Wow" out of all the places we looked. It is a little out of the way of the Pittsburgh area but very nice. You supply the alcohol. They have a caterer set up. They will tray any cookies you have and cut the cake. The bathrooms were very nice. There is an incredible staging area for the bridal party that any bride would love. I am a bit biased though. http://www.themagnoliaroom.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Country Clubs - there are many in the area and they get a bit pricey.
That's just venues and like I said that's if you're looking to do a reception for around 8K. As more info comes I'll post it. I'm getting married Nov. 10 this year.
Edit: You have a venue. Nevermind.

Re: Wedding Planning Thread
IMO, the best/most enjoyable wedding I’ve attended had no DJ and no dancing. My friend hired a string trio to play during the meal, and that was it. Personally, I think the dancing clashes horribly. Hey, that was a wonderful, formal, sacred ceremony. Now let’s all do the Electric Slide!

http://www.rnkphotography.com I'm pretty sure they are under 1k and you get the DVD, an album, and some photogs.
Edit: Nevermind, their prices went up considerably since we had them.

I understand what you're getting at, but disagree. I think the perfect wedding is one with a beautiful ceremony like you described, but is filled with fun and excitement later on at the receptions.Shyster wrote:IMO, the best/most enjoyable wedding I’ve attended had no DJ and no dancing. Re: Wedding Planning Thread
Tastes vary, and everyone is entitled to the wedding they want. I personally don’t care for dancing, and when the band or DJ comes out at a wedding, that’s the point where I start heading for the exit. Also, I think the dancing is exclusionary for older guests who can’t dance or are uninterested in the music. Not only are Grandma or old Aunt Ethel probably not interested in doing the Macarena, the loud music makes it harder to hear/talk to other guests, which is something they might be more interested in doing. Weddings are to some extent a combined family reunion.itissteeltime wrote:I understand what you're getting at, but disagree. I agree, Shyster. A nice Classical ensemble is a gorgeous touch at a wedding. BTW, I puke at the sight of a bunch of drunken, uncoordinated, people trying to dance to bad music.

Also I have a DJ that is $600 for 5 hours and $50 for every half hour past that. Requires a $50 deposited then the rest of the payment on the day of the wedding.

How did you hear of them? Ie have you experienced their show?Pavel Bure wrote:Also I have a DJ that is $600 for 5 hours and $50 for every half hour past that. Requires a $50 deposited then the rest of the payment on the day of the wedding.
While its a place you can skimp, that's the easiest way to turn your night into a bad one. A bad DJ will be remembered for a long time. My cousins was horrible last year.

The future Mrs. Meow and I booked the photographer, church, reception club, baker, and dj all within about 36 hours of each other. We felt like we dominated the world.

DJ booked. $900 for 6 hours ($700 base rate for 4 hours and $100 per). Estimating we run from 3:30-9:30, probably end up running longer.
Calling a photographer we really like tomorrow to discuss prices. Funny thing is my fiancée is very hands off this while process. I'm just doin it and getting **** done.

Think we found a photographer today. (Well. One she wants
) GD they are expensive. You really dont even get prints with them either. You pay more for prints.
