Remember Casey Martin?
http://espn.go.com/golf/usopen12/story/ ... ance-there
He'll be riding his cart at the US Open.
The idea that riding in a cart gives someone an advantage is idiotic.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I'm pumped for the US Open tomorrow. The USGA, as always, made some terrific pairings. Tiger, Phil, and Bubba go off tomorrow morning while Rory, Donald, and Westbrook go out later in the day.
After Congressional played like your local country club last year I have a feeling the USGA is going to make Olympic merciless this year. I love when the winning score is around or above par in majors, it makes the tournament much more exciting I believe.
Picking a winner in the Open is pretty much a crapshoot, especially at Olympic where favorites haven't played well, but I think Tiger has a great chance. He was hitting the ball as pure as I have seen him hit it in years at the Memorial. I think he'll be in contention on Sunday and hopefully he will get it done!

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Martin should have been given an exemption long ago, no doubt. However, if you took two able-bodied golfers and let one use a cart and the other not, it's quite an advantage. It's about five miles per round of walking. Could make a big difference at the end of a round.shafnutz05 wrote:Remember Casey Martin?

It could make a difference, but in Casey's case, his body feels like it's walked TEN miles and he's riding that cart. When he finished his qualifier last Monday, he was in a ton of pain but he was able to muscle through it.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Pretty rough group of golfers in my US Open pool
Adam Scott
Peter Hanson
Sergio Garcia
Dustin Johnson
Bill Haas
Probably have the most confidence in Peter Hanson and DJ. We basically take the top 25 golfers and divvy them up amongst us randomly.

Adam Scott is tremendously talented, but the US Open is definitely his worst major by far. Can't wait to have scoretracker open all dayGaucho wrote:Never underestimate Adam Scott. I like that group a lot.

Graeme Mcdowell, Lee Westwood, Matt Kucher, and Justin Rose would be my 4 picks of non-superstars (Phil, Tiger, Rory, Bubba, etc.)

Luke Donald is my pick. He's another player with an atrocious US Open record, though.

I've only ever seen/played one hole that was longer a 685 par 6 that actually crosses a road, so you have to look both ways before hitting.Gaucho wrote:The 16th hole is a 670 yard Par 5.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Sooo....next year, the US Open is coming to Merion CC, just outside of Philly in Ardmore. Definitely want to go. Yesterday on my way home, I made it a point of going that way and driving past the course. It's going to be interesting...I know they've had the Open there before, but it is a VERY tight course that is tucked back in there. Gonna be interesting to see how they handle the galleries/crowds.

The 17th hole at the Black Mountain Golf Club is not only long but has many difficult lies and shots along the way. The 15th hole at Turquoise Valley offers the golfer the chance to unbutton his top two buttons and blast away at this beautiful and aptly named course.
I played this course when I was a teenager; I didn't get par.

Why is there no TV coverage right now? I turn on ESPN and it is SportsCenter, I turn on Golf Channel and they haven't shown one minute of live play for the last 30 minutes. You'd think they'd be showing some golf right now consider Phil, Tiger, and Bubba are on the course.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
There is actually a ton of TV coverage for this tournament. Today and tomorrow, 12 PM to 10 PM. Saturday and Sunday, 4-10 PM. Starts on ESPN3 (online) at 11:30 AM. Only really missing an hour and a half out of 12 hours of golf.Ossa wrote:Why is there no TV coverage right now?
