That was the best part about working at a driving range: the people who hit all their "real" golf balls. If we found 'em, we got to keep 'em. Have at least 100 Pro V's I've found.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:its amazing how many lost prov1s are out there. kenny the kangaroo thought they were only for good players. not sucky players that blast balls 30 feet into the woods.count2infinity wrote:My apartment is right next to a golf course (trees between the course and my balcony so i can't see anything). We just got a dog and have been taking him on walks on the nature trail that goes near the course. So far 3 walks on the trail, 5 ProV1's found and 1 Callaway warbird. Awesome.

Yup. Boss said it was either "end of season, so they get rid of old balls", "they want to hit more", or "they didn't play well with them".Letang Is The Truth wrote:people hit real golf balls at the range????

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Just this year I really started getting into golf seriously after spending the past 5-7 years going only 2-3 times a year, if that.
Up until this point I just used hand-me-down sets from my dad as it wasn't worth spending money on a set for the frequency I hit the course. However, the other day I was at Dick's and was able to snag an Adams A7OS set for an amazing price and am extremely glad I did.
I've never tried a hybrid club before and was amazed at how well I hit them. Like, really well. (Set came with 4-5H and 6-7 Semi-Hybrid.) My problem though is that I've never hit fairway woods well at all, and the two I picked up the same day are no exception. The woods I had before were smaller, but the club face was taller; I figured the two I picked up would be better since I had a wider club head to look at to build confidence hitting the ball, even if the club face was shorter, much like an iron. I just can't get the grip on the woods and am considering taking them back since they came with a 30-day test run in which I could return them for store credit.
I'm wondering if anyone else prefers long irons/hybrids over fairway woods. I'm considering 2-3H to replace the woods. I figure any "distance" I lose from going to long irons from woods would be irrelevant since I can't hit the woods for crap anyways and typically need an extra stroke after I completely whiff or top the ball and/or hit it left/right of the fairway.
Thoughts?

on the last page, litt observed that the only people who used ProV1s are scratch golfers and crappy players that like new gear.

I love bombing a 5 wood from the fairway. One of the few things I can hit consistently during a round.

Well....
<---- doesn't know any better
The hybrids off a tee are a thing of beauty though 9 times out of 10.
<---- doesn't know any better

Not terribly with the older ones I had, but I haven't had the chance to use the newer ones off the tee in the two weeks since purchase. The one time I tried, the short height of the club head really messed with me and I ended up getting too far under the ball.MRandall25 wrote:How well do you hit the fairway woods off the tee?

Re: LGP Golf Thread
IMO, fairway woods are definitely an asset if I need to lay up or reach a long Par 3/short Par 4 from the tee.
Then again, everyone plays differently.
And I don't own a 7 wood, but my dad has been known to break one out every now and then.

I don't personally own one, but when we go to Florida to golf with my wife's grandparents, her Nana typically uses a 7 wood off the fairway.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:will anyone else admit to owning a 7 wood?

My 12 handicap enjoys hitting bombs with my 5 wood off the deck.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:on the last page, litt observed that the only people who used ProV1s are scratch golfers and crappy players that like new gear.

The gamer is a solid ball! TF gets a real bad rap from the past, but now I think Callaway makes it and its an awesome ball.

Most people can't bomb the drive like PGA players and get that kind of distance. For long par 5's and par 3's and short par 4's they come in pretty handy. I played in high school and college and I can't imagine not having a 3 and a 5 wood.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:as far as fairway woods goes, the only people who use fairway woods are scratch golfers and crappy players that dont know any better

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Ok - for golf drill gurus.
I'm happy, for now, with all aspects of my game except for the tee. In any round I play in - the biggest trouble I may run into is hurting myself off the tee. I have a draw right now, that sometimes turns into a hook.
This summer I've worked on getting into the right position on my backswing. I've focused on my shoulders turning, when I do that I usually find it's much easier to control the ball - this has certainly improved my accuracy off the tee, the problem I think I run into is rhythm. There are times I can go out on the course, focus on my backswing and take an easy swing and hit the ball straight with good distance. Although at some point during the round, my tempo falls off and I start to hook the ball. Sometimes I can get it back, sometimes not. It's really a challenge if we are playing on a crowded course and I'm waiting on every shot.
I've got some alignment rods, not sure if there is any drill I can do to prevent the hook by honing my swing plane, or something I can do to help keep that tempo. Not sure if this makes sense or not, but I feel like if I start getting too quick on my downswing - I invite that hook.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Returned the woods and was lucky enough to find the 2H in the same set I own, now I just need to find the 3H and my set will be complete.
Hopefully the weather is good enough through the weekend to get out and test them!

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Had my golf scramble today. Started out very well. We were -11 through 9 holes. Our next 9 holes, we shot -1. Everything just fell apart for all 4 of us. The winner was at -20 and the runner up was at -17. If we'd have kept up our pace, we'd have won it. Oh well, it was still pretty fun.
