Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Lost a total of 30 pounds from the 4 week program. Also went from a size 42 waist to a 36. It is so awesome to shop with the regular folk instead of going to big and fat for clothes.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
My last diet i didn't follow anything but the ammount of calories in.... 2000 a day and lost weight faster than i ever have. No charts, no limits, no other certin values i looked at, just calories in and i was losing at times 3 lbs a week. ALmost to fast for my liking. Of course i worked out 6 days a week which helped speed up the process, focused mostly on cardio but had about 2 lfting days a week thrown in.
I did this after reading about the twinkie diet so i kinda put it to the test. Just count calories in... it worked. Of course i ate more a balanced diet than just twinkies but same concept.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I haven't been working out the last week due to Christmas but I plan on starting up again today. I really need to control my eating more. I sit there and eat a little of this and a little of that and then a little more and a little more. I want to drop 20 lbs from 200 to 180 and the ONLY way this is going to happen is through diet.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Working a double today so I am using my hour break for a workout instead of sitting around and eating. That's dedication son!

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
So I did something (stupid?) and signed up for the tough mudder in Aug. The Warrior dash was tough enough for me, so I obviously need to do some training. So that brings me to this thread. I'm sure it's covered somewhere in this thread, I only checked the last 10 pages - any comments on Insanity or similar programs?
Recently I played 1 dek and 2 Ice hockey games in the same night, and felt fine - but I have difficulty trying to run more than a mile or two - so I obviously need to cross train, and I would also like to lose about 10-15 pounds.
Also, I couldn't help but notice that this thread is at 38 pages - but the beer thread is at 117.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I decided I am going to try and ride in some tougher conditions this winter on my mountain bike. Pretty much took the entire winter off last year, but I did some rides earlier this week that gave me confidence that I could handle the conditions. Have to wear much warmer clothes, but balance that out against possibly getting overheated later in the ride. Got some neoprene shoe covers which help tremendously. Next step is to install some wider tires on the bike to help get more traction. I'm actually having way more fun going slowly down the hills and trying to stay on the bike through the muddy terrain. It's like learning to ride all over again.

I have a Tabata routine you can do that will get you there. 8 week program, repeat as wanted. PM me if you want it.Steve wrote:So I did something (stupid?) and signed up for the tough mudder in Aug. Does anyone here use the Nike+Running app? My best friend and I have a bet for the upcoming year regarding the first to get to 500 miles over the course of the year and I think we're going to use it to log. Thoughts?

Is that the GPS watch that will post every time you run to facebook? I have a cousin that uses it and she just ran a marathon. The watch looks great. I have a garmin GPS watch I use. No app or nothing. Just tracks my miles, location, elevation, and my pace.legame wrote:Does anyone here use the Nike+Running app? Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
We want an app where we can see each others numbers. The idea is that it'll shame us into keeping up with each other, as well as eliminating any possible fudging of totals. No watch... just an app that tracks miles through GPS.
I've used mapmyrun in the past, but I saw that Nike's app allows you to add friends and create "leaderboards" that should work perfectly for what we want to do.

Mapmyrun is an awesome for tracking routes if you don't have a Garmin watch. Problem is I caught somebody doing a mapmyrun route as he was sitting beside me having a beer last year. Yeah....oops. Had he posted the route w/o comment I would have paid no mind. But he was there for 2 beers, ordered another one, then posted. Not cool.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Down 12lbs in the last 2 weeks. However, I have over trained like crazy. My body is so over worked that I am constantly cramping up all over. I'm adding a steady dose of BCAAs to my diet (should have been there anyway) and I'm replacing 2 snacks a day with a recovery meal. Loving this new eating plan and Tabata routine though. Kicking total butt and taking names.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
This is what my trainer recommended:
http://www.drvita.com/p-3684-optimum-nu ... 15-oz.aspx
First of all, I am banned from all exercise until Saturday. I feel like I've been grounded. Secondly, he changed up my eating plan. On non-workout days I am to replace 2 of my snacks with recovery and on workout days I recover immediately following the workout.
Recovery is:
2 pieces of fruit (he suggested banana and pineapple)
Whey protein shake
BCAAs
I'm freaking addicted to exercise and fitness...

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Yeah BCAAs are great and all but those aren't going to make your muscles any less sticky and cramp any less

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I need a few new back exercises. I never feel drained on my back days.
Typical Workout:
Dead Lift (stiff legged or not)
Low Rows
T-Bar Rows
One-armed Rows
Sometimes some curls
Lat pull downs
Barbell Pullovers
Y-Raises w/ Dumbbell
I usually only do seven exercises on a give day (not all eight listed above). On paper it looks pretty good, but I'm never as exhausted as a chest day. Maybe that's just the nature of the muscle I'm working out, but I feel like I'm not leaving it all on the ice, so to speak. Any suggestions?

The only back exercises I usually do are pullups. Sometimes i'll do cable seated rows on the ball. That's great for the lower back.yubb wrote:I need a few new back exercises. I never feel drained on my back days.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I'm back up to running 3 miles. The time it takes me to do that leaves a lot to be desired though.
