this is garbage. NJ sends me unclear directions on what they actually need from me to process my 100% legit, unfishy refund. they give me a phone number to call with questions, and every time i try calling, there's an automated message saying that they're under heavy volume and can't accept any more calls.

this smells bad. i think it's pretty clear they don't have the money to pay out all their refunds right now, and are making it impossible for certain people to get back the thousands of dollars that they're owed in a timely manner.

Surprise!
http://money.cnn.com/2013/03/12/pf/taxe ... index.html
The IRS said 10%, or more than 600,000, of the 6.6 million returns claiming education credits it has received so far this tax season were improperly filed by tax software providers. As a result, those refunds could be delayed for as long as six weeks.

LOL @ them blaming tax software companies. Next time, congress should pass the tax laws sooner.

I owed $1 to the feds... ended up with a few bucks to the state for usage tax... forget the exact amount since I had a few bucks in the positive left over from previous years. I wasn't about to have the state send me a $2 check and end up on their always audit list. :pop:

I just did the estimated usage tax. I could have gone back through all of my amazon purchases prior to them collecting tax, but the time was worth more than a few bucks to me.

Also, super awesome that Turbo Tax supported importing your W2s this year. Made the whole process even less painful.

I always owe the state $1 or $2 because of interest, dividends, and capital gains.

Happy confiscation day everyone. I paid more in federal taxes this year than I earned in 1998.

I understand that taxes are a necessary evil. But the way the Governement goes about this would make our founding fathers reach for their muskets.

new jersey is garbage. i get a nice refund because i pay a zillion dollars in property taxes. then they send me a letter saying that there may be shenanigans in play, so i have to send them copies of all of my tax documents and pay stubs that i don't have anymore. their phone # to call with questions doesn't work, by the way. after a few weeks of getting this stuff together and finally sending it out, they send me a letter saying basically, "don't worry about sending that stuff after all. we're very concerned about fraud, so we were just being safe, but you're cool."

Translation: we didn't have enough money to pay everyone's refund, so we sent you on a wild goose chase while we got our act together.
