that's precisely what my fiancee and I didn't want. We're having BBQ at the reception. Wedding and reception are in an old barn. Her dress was purchased for $150, I'll be wearing a suit I already own. There are so many silly things with today's weddings. We wanted good food, good beer, and close friends and relatives to be there and that's really all we want.pittsoccer33 wrote:almost everything about a modern wedding is pretending like you are much wealthier than you are.
if you have to borrow clothes to go to your own party you're doing it wrong.

Is it an "old barn" or a "wedding barn"?

It's an old barn that has been turned into a wedding barn

You'd score some major farm cred points if there was livestock in the barn while you were getting married.

I went to a wedding about a year or two ago and there were signs up in the church saying "NO PICTURES - IF YOU WANT PICTURES WE WILL PROVIDE YOU A LINK TO A WEB ALBUM"
is that common? seemed bizarre to me.

wow, yeah i'd be livid. Any way you can move the ceremony somewhere else? I know it'd involve invitation headaches. This is why we waited until the last minute to buy our invitations.

Who's prohibiting it, I wonder? Maybe the church is only allowing the pro photographer to take photos in order to avoid an Oscars-like free-for-all; maybe the photographer is marking the territory for exclusivity and to make $$$.pittsoccer33 wrote:I went to a wedding about a year or two ago and there were signs up in the church saying "NO PICTURES - IF YOU WANT PICTURES WE WILL PROVIDE YOU A LINK TO A WEB ALBUM"

The church in which we were married didn't permit any photography during the ceremony, just at the beginning of the processional and at the end of the recessional, and no flash even then. But that was ostensibly for religious reasons--keepin' it solemn, I suppose. We didn't want any videography anyway, but I imagine that wasn't permissible, either.

Our church said no photography, except for the professional. "The sanctuary is not your photo studio"... meh.Lt. Dish wrote:Who's prohibiting it, I wonder? Re: Wedding Planning Thread
We've it all sorted. We're moving it to a "sister parish", they're paying for new invites, and all in all, we are able to move our ceremony from 230 to 300 at the new church so that kinda helps us with the big gap we would have had between ceremony and reception. It is slightly farther from our town (butler), and slightly farther from the reception, but only about 5-7 minutes or so, and its actually a 'less confusing' drive for the out of towners to get to and fro.mac5155 wrote:wow, yeah i'd be livid. Re: Wedding Planning Thread
Sounds like a fantastic idea to me. I witnessed some amazing ******* moves by guests including guests standing in the aisle to "get their shot" and blocking the groom's view of the bride walking toward him, guests walking right up to the b&g during the ceremony and "getting creative" pictures, guests constantly using flash throughout the ceremony, etc. Guests spend more time looking at the backs of their cameras checked to see if their crappy photos turned out okay than actually paying attention to the ceremony.pittsoccer33 wrote:I went to a wedding about a year or two ago and there were signs up in the church saying "NO PICTURES - IF YOU WANT PICTURES WE WILL PROVIDE YOU A LINK TO A WEB ALBUM"

It never failed to amaze me how crazy some guests were about trying to take photos. One night we had an "Uncle Bob" laying on the dance floor and standing on chairs half the night trying to get "cool angles".

My Uncle Jim will probably be laying on the floor at the end of the night, but it won't be to get pictures.

there's no reason for 99% of guests to take pictures during the ceremony at a church. your camera will be junky without a flash, and you have neither a zoom lens long enough or an angle wide enough to get a meaningful picture. it's just gonna be crud that the bride and groom will put on a disk somewhere

Got our first rsvp that's going to be an issue today. My 15 year old cousin, who wasn't going to be invited until the whole kid fiasco came about, marked he is bringing a guest. I'm sure it was my aunt that did it, but still.

More like call them and say uh, no guest for him. Sorry, but you're 16, you don't need a guest, and I'm not paying for her either.

Is it just bad etiquette when people don't only go by whose names are on the card, or ignorance, or indifference, or all. Ugh. And yeah, no reason for a 15 year old to bring a "date" to a wedding.

Agreed.
Her mom is making cookies...I looked up how many cookies per person. I did not know this was a Pittsburgh only tradition .

We had soooo many cookies at our wedding. Almost all of them were gone by the end of the night though.

She loves making cookies, so I figured 4-6 cookies per guest. We're looking at 100 dozen for 210 people. Probably too much, but we're gonna just get Chinese takeout containers.

how much are tuxes supposed to be? We just stopped by Men's Wearhouse... they start at $90 but nice ones are like $130-$180 each??? I think I'm going to stop by a local tux place and see if the prices are better.

Men's Warehouse is awful. Expensive and not that great after being in two weddings that got their tuxes there. What area are you trying to rent tuxes from?count2infinity wrote:how much are tuxes supposed to be? We just stopped by Men's Wearhouse... they start at $90 but nice ones are like $130-$180 each???
