The guy went for like 25 or 30 yards to around midfield. I feel like that is basically the embodiment of Joe Flacco's success.

When QB's only passed the ball 20 times a game, you had to be very special to be good. Now that the average is more like 30 and teams routinely throw the ball 40 times you can be less good and have good results, stats, etc. John Elway Joe Flacco is not, but he's at least as good as Ben Roethlisberger and ten or so other NFL QB's.

One thing I've noticed with Flacco is he is very good at throwing deep passes. He is accurate to the point where the ball is caught on the fly without much effort, or PI is called on the defense. It does seem that a lot of his WRs are completely wide open when they catch the ball no matter the distance, but the ball is at least put in a position so the WRs are able to produce significant YAC. Flacco's biggest weakness is that once he starts getting pressure he falls apart more quickly than other QBs.

in the regular season, flacco is the exact median of NFL quarterbacks. and in this era, unless you're a big kyle orton fan, that means he's flat out bad.

but he did what he did in the playoffs last year, which deserves some credit - but certainly not as much as he's getting. it's hard to say without opening myself up for sour grapes accusations, but those stats weren't earned.

he may be the biggest pansy in the league when he's under pressure. it's almost comical how he reacts when he knows he's about to get hit

I agree with this to an extent. He did what he did and it is noted. But, I cannot recall a QB that has been luckier in his career. It always seems things fall into place for a guy that is average at best.

I think roethlisberger and flacco are in the same tier. They both bring good things and bad to the table, but are both above average and with the correct supporting cast can do great things. I think Manning is close to this tier as well. But I don't think their marginal value at the QB position justifies their contract. The problem is that the QB position is such a vital role, they are able to handcuff the team into giving them huge contracts. So the cost of those contracts results in a weaker supporting cast, and a far less chance of a super bowl.

I think you ride those guys through their rookie contracts and let someone else give them the huge contract. Giving huge money to guys like Eli Manning, Flacco and Roethlisberger immediately lowers the ceiling of the team.

You can't sustain success with a QB on that contract, If I were a GM i'd rather take my chances on developing someone like Kaepernick or Russell Wilson and building windows at the front. Basically as soon as Flacco signed that contract the Ravens closed their superbowl window.

Pittsburgh had some good years at the front end of the Roethlisberger contract, but they aren't going to compete for another superbowl with him at QB.

Kaepernick and Russell are both gonna get huge contracts after their rookie deals are up if they keep playing the way they are. Ponder sucks, and isnt gonna get a huge deal but he isn't gonna get you to a SB even with Peterson as your running back.

QB's get big money. It's just how it goes. It's the value of the position.
