I wouldn't. I'd be more embarrassed about falling.

Neither of us are advocating a sham lawsuit. I read his original question as a rhetorical one.count2infinity wrote:sure...but again, we're talking about "seriously hurt" broken bone? sure. need crutches for a few weeks? sure. fall over, bruise your butt and have a slightly tweaked ankle? nah...

You fall, smack you head on the street and become paralyzed and all you feel is embarrassment?

Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
Seems kinda backwards. If you admit calling them would get some action but you'd rather have the city take care of it.Troy Loney wrote:Yeah, while i'm sure that calling the complex could get some action....but my main issue is getting the city to enforce the law. I walk home after work from downtown sometimes when I can't bike, there are plenty of places that don't clear their sidewalks. That concert venue in the strip district and the complex on my street are the most difficult to navigate for me on my walk.Factorial wrote:Also, if you've ever lived in a city and had to walk more than a few minutes to get anywhere you could encounter countless iced sidewalks. It would be impractical to call all of these property owners.

I want the threat of a ticket to actually exist so commercial property owners clear the ice from infront of their property. I don't want to have to call every place that doesn't clear their walk.

Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
In my town of about 70,000 people, the problem is that there are two inspectors that cover a range of violations. The fine is $100 and many businesses ignore shoveling hoping it will melt before the inspector gets around to their place but if not, they get a warning to shovel if it's their first offense, then get a fine a day later. Most times, it melts by then, but if not, the fine is cheaper than having a crew shovel their area.

Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are forecast over a heavily populated part of the mid-Atlantic to southeastern New England.
The mountains of Virginia and West Virginia will likely have upwards of 6 inches from this quick-moving storm. Other locations near the mid-Atlantic and southeastern New England coast have a chance at a 6- to 12-inch snowfall.

Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
everything and its brother is closed in the greater DC area today - even the federal government - and not a lick of snow has fallen yet as of 9am. Our school system announced at 10pm last night.
(Lot of systems are still gunshy here becase of Veterans Day 1987 - where scores of kids got stuck at school late into the evening because they couldn't get an early dismissal accomplished.

Took me an hour to get to the school this morning. Usually takes 30 mins. No delay though, heaven forbid there's a delay.
