Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
I had no trouble getting to work. Fortunately my bus was on time, and I got into town without a delay.
The sidewalks in town, however, are horrible. I walked so slowly to my office, didn't want to fall.

Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
Quick question stuck at work at AGH and cant see the roads other than the clear ones around the hospital. How are the roads in the city of Pittsburgh? I have a 45 minute window to leave work and make it to my sons school in Brentwood to pick him up. Should I be ok or should I try to duck out a little earlier?
Thanks,
Anthony

Be thankful for PennDOT.... I now work in Morgantown and I do not believe that the entire state of WV owns a snowplow

I went up to Toronto for NYE, the roads around Erie in PA were some of the worst I've ever seen. 79 about 20 miles south of erie hadnt been touched and I-90 heading to Buffalo was the same.Loaf31 wrote:Be thankful for PennDOT.... They closed our offices at noon and looking at all the people still sitting in traffic outside my office...I'm still hanging here until it clears a little. No sense sitting in this mess.

LOL. That's really close to where I live - I drive under 79 at the Edinboro interchange every day. It had probably been plowed sometime in the previous hour or two. That's just the way it gets on those two stretches of highway when the lake effect is really going.thehockeyguru wrote:I went up to Toronto for NYE, the roads around Erie in PA were some of the worst I've ever seen. 79 about 20 miles south of erie hadnt been touched and I-90 heading to Buffalo was the same.

The Native American name for the area was Conneauttee, which, according to local legend, means "land of the living snowflake."MRandall25 wrote:I have family who live in Edinboro.Willie Kool wrote:LOL. Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
Left work early in time to take the 12PM train home. Of course it is packed since every business in the city must have allowed their employees to leave early too. I luckily get a seat but some people have to stand the normal 30 minute trip stretched into a 1 hour trip because of the extra time it took to get everyone on and off the train. I then had to drive home from the train station which took me another 45 minutes. I'm staying home for sure tomorrow. My work hasn't declared the office closed even though the City of Philadelphia has called an emergency and cancelled everything for tomorrow. Luckily, I am able to work from home regardless.

I believe in equality among the sexes. I was against the wall anyways. Would have forced the girl sitting next to me to get up.Factorial wrote:I hope you gave up that seat to a lady.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Left work early in time to take the 12PM train home. what a dud of a storm. They cancelled school again for tomorrow already, and we barely got an inch. They could have easily had a normal morning & early dismissal today without a problem.

Re: 2013-2014 Winter Weather Thread
Out in Philly, my work let people go home early if they came from far away...local people (like myself, who also lives in the city itself...roughly 15 blocks or so from my office) were gently encouraged to stay...so I stayed at work until 5 pm, an office of 50ish was down to about 7ish? 8ish? by 1 pm...I guess all of a sudden everyone lives far away...
I don't mind snow, nor do I mind whatever it is I'm supposed to do at work...so I had no qualms...we'll see what happens tomorrow, long time people at my job have said that the office never closes really for anything...
We have gotten a wealth of snow out here though to be sure...still going...
