I work for GDOT, buying equipment. 2 years ago we bought several million dollars worth of snow plows and spreaders. we keep most of them in North GA where they get used a fair amount in the Winter. S. GA gets an ice storm once every 20 years or so. they're screwed.
JW what is PURE SNOW as opposed to fake snow? :pop:

I didn't say REAL snow I said PURE snow.
that would be snow that isn't mixed with ice which is what we usually get. during our last storm in 2011 it started out as regular snow and then switched over to ice. I was able to go out in my cul-de-sac with a stick and puck and practice stickhandling. I would've gotten the skates out but too many cars had ruined it making it too jagged. some folks were ice skating down Peachtree Street in Midtown:

Im glad im off today. ;) But back to these temps, my alarm this morning was a poor neighbors dog barking for atleast 15 minutes to get out of the cold. Not only do I feel for the dog and his cold lil feets, but that is not a cool way to be woken up.

Is this Western PA?

When I left for work this morning it was +13 but a good amount of wind which made it feel in the negatives...but that sounds brutal...

totally insane here. all the businesses and schools released about the same time. couple that with too many tractor trailers who drove too fast for conditions and you have people who normally have a 30 minute commute who have been trying to get home for 10 hours. many have abandoned their cars and either walked home or gotten a hotel for the night.

It took me almost 3 hours to go 2.5 miles home from work today. I have two friends who had 10 hour treks home. Crazy down here right now. Another friend is stranded and is going to have to sleep in her car since she is so far from home and no hotels have vacancies. Doesn't seem to be as icy as 2011. I hope I can skate to work tomorrow but I doubt it.

Car wouldn't start last evening. Battery is only 2 years old so I'm not sure what's going on.

Wow, what a nightmare.

The worst I ever experienced there was the flooding from a few years back. My 30 minute commute turned into 4 hours.

Was in Charlotte during the winter about 2 years ago. After a quarter inch of snow they shut down the city and all government and non-essential employees were sent home.
