Interesting. Both of my pups fall into the "Running on trails with obstacles" category.shafnutz05 wrote:For the first time I took my goldendoodle running with me today. It went WAY better than expected. She kept a perfect 8:30 or so pace throughout the run, didn't pull or lag behind. I also found that I had much more energy and it seemed like the miles went by more quickly...maybe just because I had a running buddy.
Apparently, goldendoodles are ideal for long, steady runs...pretty cool infographic from Runner's World for any other dog owners out there:

I don't even fall into that category. I can run far, but I've tripped over cracks in the sidewalk before.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Ive been running through the neighborhood with my puppy lately. Just for like 15 or 20 minutes in the mornin and at night. By the time the summer comes ill probably take her out for 30-40 minutes at a time so we can get several miles in. This past week or so she got to the point where her sprint is faster than mine.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Yesterday i upped the weight i was using for squats...today im experiencing lower back pain. I made a fairly substantial increase in the weight. Do you think its just my body reacting to greater weight or is it more likely that the extra exertion from the extra weight threw off my form? Or is it the accumulation of me picking up my rapidly growin dog way too much and sitting on the floor to play with her constantly for the past 3 weeks?

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Pain or Soreness? If it's pain, I'm betting you tweaked something when the heavier weight took you a little off form. Just a hunch, though.

Just finished my 15k.....1:23:25, or just under 9 minutes per mile. Course was along the Schuylkill, but a bit hillier than expected. Pretty damn happy with how it went considering I haven't run more than five miles since Broad Street last May

Nice work. I'm allergic to hills, when I run up one my legs have a reaction and turn to Jell-O.shafnutz05 wrote:Just finished my 15k.....1:23:25, or just under 9 minutes per mile. I did this run last year. It was well organized and pretty funJS© wrote:http://www.active.com/apollo-pa/running ... -moon-2014
So let me get this right: the "race to the Moon" does not involve a race in Moon or a race that ends up in Moon?

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Finished the half marathon in 2:28 yesterday. Not a great time, but it was 13.1 miles more than the people who didn't do it, so I feel accomplished.
My time was also slowed by the fact that I had to take a bathroom break about mile 8. Probably would have been around 2:20 without the wait and the time it took to do my business.

obviously you aren't a serious runner, otherwise you would have kept running and crapped yourself. :pop:

Started T25 today....I like it so far. I'm also doing the Atkins Diet and have lost 15 lbs in a week (I know most is water weight, but I'm happy)

Seems legit.
pf89, nice work. That's no small feat on a hilly course like that.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I just recently borrowed this from a friend. I love the premise, especially on days like today when I don't have time to hit the gym after work because of the Pens start time. watched a couple of the Beta workouts. they kind of scare me.Loaf31 wrote:Started T25 today....I like it so far. Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I'm doing T25 now with my wife. I get up early and lift heavy and then do T25 with her. I have previously done P90X, which I liked well enough, and Insanity, which my wife loves but I refuse to ever do again. I prefer lifting heavy things over doing ridiculously long cardio sessions. Also thought the design and layout if Insanity was a complete mess and by the end of the first month my knees were destroyed.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
so does anybody have a good recommendation on a running watch? I think I'm at my breaking point with this Nike watch. Ran about 4.5 mi today, but the watch says it was only 3.2.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
I have a Garmin Forerunner 610. Really great watch, been using it for years. Everything from little maintenance runs to a full marathon. I have the foot pod so I use it indoors on the treadmill as well. I can't run without it anymore, if I forget to put it in my bag I just don't run. It syncs to my computer and the Garmin Connect website so every run I've had in the last 5 years or so is archived, such as this. Since they're older, you can get one for half what I paid. Less than $200.
Before that I was using a Garmin 410. When I bought the 610 I gave my wife that watch and she's still using it. Same basic operating system as the 610, but it has a less friendly interface system as the 610 is a touchscreen.
There are newer watches in the line, but the 610/410 haven't failed yet. When the 610 does go out I plan to upgrade to the 620 which is similar but has a color screen, but I like the 610 enough that it isn't worth the money to switch yet.
Any specific questions?

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
Downloaded a $2.99 app today, "You are your own gym". Featuring all bodyweight only exercises (of course, using common household props for many), it's based on the teachings of Mark Lauren.
Tried the first workout today (upper body). After the 36 minute workout was over, my arms were shaking so badly I could barely pour a glass of milk. Seems like a great workout so far, doing lower body tomorrow.

Re: Gym/Exercise Thread
My new diet, 2000 calories a day, eat anything I want, as long as I am under 2000 calories. i pretty much eat smart, cut out the stupid things but still had 2 slices of pizza but had a big salad before hand. Was under 2000 for that day. Eat mainly 2 meals a day 11 and 5, small morning snack and late night something. M-W-F 3 mile jog. T-T-S full body lifting session. All my workouts are late at night. 2 and a half weeks 9 pounds lost. I know the first 4 pounds of that was water weight causde i lost 4 lbs in the first 4 days that wasn't fat loss. so in my mind that's 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I am happy with that.
I know this doesn't follow the most optimal diet but i always think people fall off their diets cause they try and be a perfect dieter by following the perfect routine. I just want to lose the fat so the muscle can show through. With kids and a job, i can't eat 6 small meals a day and can't wake up early to do a workout.
