Re: George R.R. Martin
Word is that there's no Bran (and thusly Hodor) in season 5.
Weird. They aren't even caught up to the book yet.

That's totally fine with me. Plus if they drop Bran from this season, they can recast the role. That actor's way too old.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Bran's actor is starting to get as tall as Hodor. I noticed they had to get creative with how he's transported.
I don't know if they have to recast him really. The show has taken years to progress the story, so it's almost like the events happen over multiple years (which they don't). The same thing is happening with Aria, and there is no way they are recasting her. I think there is literally no one else who could play her as well as Macy.

Unless Maisy Williams becomes a giant her character will be fine and there are things they can logically do to age her that would actually keep with her character coming up.

Re: George R.R. Martin
I would rather see characters left out than to see them try to invent stuff for them to do. Bran's story really isn't all that interesting atm anyway.

There isn't a whole lot left in that arc unless they start going into stuff GRRM hasn't yet written.shmenguin wrote:Word is that there's no Bran (and thusly Hodor) in season 5.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Show watcher here, just witnessed Joffery's death. I've seen a lot of "I tried to read the books" etc. and can say that after talking with a friend I will never read them. They sound like a Girl With The Dragon Tattoo redux in terms of needless droning on about detail. I don't need to know that the table had pheasant, turkey, cranberry marmalade, bread baked almost to the point of burning but not quite, etc. for multiple pages. That's not good writing that's digression.

I read the first 4. I won't read another for the same reason. The show is great.

I am re-reading Dance with Dragons because I forgot much of the book and want to scan for clues. Definitely don't see the needless detail in this read

Re: George R.R. Martin
I heard about all of the endless detail before reading them and had no problem with it. There are entire chapters i dont care for, but thats the worst of it.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Theres almost nothing wrong with Storm of Swords. Feast for Crows is as bad though as SoS is great.
I would hope the reason he goes on about the food and extravagance is how bad things get as the war rages on. It gets to the point when they, gasp, can't get Cersei exactly what she wants and she needs to settle on something else.
Or the guy likes food.

In general, ADWD is much better than AFFC. However, there are some things that irk me.

Even the description of the garb that Joffrey wears was another example I heard covered a couple pages. We get it, he's rich, he wears fancy clothes. Just like the food, we get it, it's a feast.DelPen wrote:Theres almost nothing wrong with Storm of Swords. Feast for Crows is as bad though as SoS is great.

Maybe Martin read too much Homer. The Greek, not the dude from Springfield.

I'm on page 500 of Feast for Crows. While there is some dragging out, I don't think it is that bad. I've actually enjoyed the book.
Storm of Swords is by far the best book out of all of them so far.

Re: George R.R. Martin
that's why i'm surprised they didn't just make his character current. skip the knight's watch kidnapping, get him to the tree earlier in the season and finish out his story to where it is in the book.Rocco wrote:There isn't a whole lot left in that arc unless they start going into stuff GRRM hasn't yet written.shmenguin wrote:Word is that there's no Bran (and thusly Hodor) in season 5.

Does anyone think there is more to the Bran story?
Not sure that needed a spoiler, but playing it safe.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Supposedly the actor that plays Bran confirmed that he will be in Season 5. So Bran, but not Hodor I guess. He doesn't really need to go anywhere at this point, so I guess that doesn't matter.
I'd be lying if I said I didnt like it better when Bran wasn't appearing though.

I finally finished Feast for Crows. I didn't think it was that bad. Now onto the next book. Hopefully by time I finish that (probably sometime next year) that fat tub of lard is done with his 6th book and not dead.
