Re: Rylan's Thread of Personal Committed Relationships
I'm so happy I'm married. If I had to keep planning first dates or try to find something exciting to do to impress a lady I think I'd rather be single. Really any person that isn't happy with a movie then dinner (yes do it in that order so you have something to talk about) as a first date I wouldn't want to date. I'm not taking you rock climbing in heels sweetheart.MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote:what do you guys usually do for a first date?
I don't think I've ever done a first date that wasn't minigolfing or dinner/movie. Boring, I know, but I don't know what else to do haha

i'll never understand how going to a movie is a good first date. unless you share a humorous experience like both of you silently agreeing to bail because it's so bad, there are only downsides. you're either killing all the momentum from a nice introduction (or dinner), or you sit there, stewing about how bad things are going. or, at best, you just hit a pause button for 2 hours. fuuuun.

What should you do on a first date if you're Weenie's age. He can't exactly eat dinner and get drinks? (How old is he again, like 14, I dunno)shmenguin wrote:i'll never understand how going to a movie is a good first date. unless you share a humorous experience like both of you silently agreeing to bail because it's so bad, there are only downsides. you're either killing all the momentum from a nice introduction (or dinner), or you sit there, stewing about how bad things are going. or, at best, you just hit a pause button for 2 hours. fuuuun.

he's over 21, i think. if he's not, he needs to spend less time on the internet and more time being a kid.Pavel Bure wrote:What should you do on a first date if you're Weenie's age. for under 21 people...i guess, "who cares? there's a 99% chance your relationships don't matter yet." isn't an option, right?

Re: Rylan's Thread of Personal Committed Relationships
I actually read something somewhere that typically as people get older, and they are still single, but desperately want to have a long term relationship, it is usually them. And not so much because they are a bad person. It's typically because they have some perfect guy/girl built up in their head that doesn't exist, and when they date someone, even if it is going well, they look for the faults that don't match their "perfect person".count2infinity wrote:It doesn't even need to be people into their 30's. My sister-in-law is terrible. New guy on the regs and every single one of them leaves her, and she posts non-stop on facebook about how hard it is to find a good guy, and how miserable she is. At what point do you take a step back and say, "hmmmm... maybe it's me."
Now, I know my wife was lucky she found her perfect person, but not many are that lucky.

i think there's often an inverse relationship between the number of topics you feel the need to post in, and your age. i'm not saying 12 is an appropriate age, in this case. i'm just sayin this is a thing...

Re: Rylan's Thread of Personal Committed Relationships
My friend in Cincy is the template for this. I won't press you for it but I wish you had the source for that. This guy went on a date with a seemingly nice and normal lawyer and dumped her off because she wasn't interesting enough. Yet goes home alone everynight after spending his evening at Hooters. He's a smart guy and realizes the fault, but doesn't seem to do anything of real consequence to work on it. I've been waiting for about 12 years for him to find someone so we can talk about our terrible wives together, but, nothing. I made homemade stuffed shells for my wife and I's first date at my dingy apartment. Must have really sucked her in with those haha. She asked the other day why I hadn't made them since lol.

also shemnguin, I really don't get why you're obsessing over the amount of threads I post in. Because it's not as much as you think.

you might. but it's more likely that you just weren't her taste. there's no shame in that. it's just inconvenient.Bioshock wrote:Wow... maybe i do suck.

you shouldn't not try to improve yourself, but you also have to consider that you've only been with x many girls out of...a few thousand, at least?Bioshock wrote:Wow... maybe i do suck.

a lot of it is just getting lucky and finding a girl that is compatible. To use a weird reference, I really like how Seth Rogen's character puts it in 40 Year Old Virgin: you gotta plant a ton of seeds and eventually one will grow. But if you only plant one seed at a time, you won't find anything.

Re: Rylan's Thread of Personal Committed Relationships
I haven't read the last couple pages so not sure if someone addressed it yet, but speaking to this comment specifically... When you're feeling down you also must remember that you're one text or conversation (actually probably just conversation) away from meeting someone awesome.Bioshock wrote:It's tough because you have to really guard yourself to keep it from ****ing you up in the head. I've gotten to the point in my relationships to realizing that I'm just one text or conversation away from being single at ANY given moment no matter how good things are.
It tears you up inside.
You can't take it personally when someone isn't quite into you, there's so many exterior factors that come into play. I've met women that were funny, smart, good looking, etc. and for whatever reason I felt no attraction to them. I've also been on dates where I thought everything was going great and she probably thinking how much I suck. Just get out there and don't let it hurt your confidence.
