Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
Oh that's good to know. None of the store brands I've had have been gingery enough for me. I like it to have a almost wasabi/horseradish nasal burn thing going on.count2infinity wrote:So if anyone was curious as far as what Trader Joe's ginger beer tastes like, it is SUPER gingery in the best possible way. I have the ginger beer, gin and lime right now in a glass and it almost tastes like candied ginger (which I love).

Had a habinero infused wine the other day. Sweet originally then a nice burn as you swallow. Very interesting.

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
nice! I worked for 3 days at a print company. one of the vendors had given them a bottle of Dom and they raffled it off to the employees and I won it! I tried to give it back 2 days later when I quit (went to work for their sister company, a job I was much better suited for anyway) but they wouldn't take it. I still have it.penny lane wrote:Happy new year! I'll take champagne over hard liquor at every opportunity.eddysnake wrote:Father in law had a nice treat for the family from their return from France

the liquor store in the cranberry 'mall' is terrible. i would have expected the cranberry area to have one of the new fancy stores. no four roses bourbon there. thumbs down

I bought my first bottle of liquor there on my 21st birthday. It was a handle of Jack Daniels.

Shared a Johnny Blue with my father-in-law over the holiday. Good times.

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
there seems to be a subtle movement among some bartenders to begin to use smokey scotches (the three most recent have all had laphroaig) in combination with the rye/bourbon for manhattans. i do not enjoy this movement.

Yeah smokey whiskey/scotch IMO is not good. I don't want anything I eat to taste exactly how smoke smells.Letang Is The Truth wrote:there seems to be a subtle movement among some bartenders to begin to use smokey scotches (the three most recent have all had laphroaig) in combination with the rye/bourbon for manhattans. i do not enjoy this movement.

I went to Apis down in Carnegie the other night. It's a mead bar that brews its own stuff. Their stuff was pretty good, if you're in to mead. I picked up a couple bottles. If it was cheaper, I'd drink this stuff on the regular.

Mead is an alcohol made from honey. A basic mead will be kind of like a subtly sweet white wine, but with a fuller mouth feel. They can also add spices or fruit to the brewing process, like a cranberry clove, or blueberry chai. It tends to be between 30 & 40 proof.eddysnake wrote:Please describe the taste of mead.Froggy wrote:I went to Apis down in Carnegie the other night. It's a mead bar that brews its own stuff. It's not overpoweringly sweet like a dessert wine, or anything. But it is made from honey, so you will have that flavor in there to some degree.

I have a friend who's obsessed with mead so I think you can buy it here. At least in NY. Could be wrong though

I've seen it in there before. I think it runs like $10-$15 a bottle.eddysnake wrote:Can you find it in state stores?Froggy wrote:Mead is an alcohol made from honey. I made some mead with one of my brothers. It's not really drinkable (or worth drinking) for the first three years. I had it at two and five, when it had a cognac vibe. He said it was excellent at seven years.

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
Mead is way to sickeningly sweet for my liking. I've tried homemade as well as commercially produced, both were underwhelming.
