Re: Current video game being played
You missed it yesterday Best Buy had all the version of the PS4 for $350 and Walmart had the console only version for $330.
Best Buy still has both the console only and the one with a free digital game for $350. It's their deal of the deal for Xmas.

As noted I'm tied to Amazon because of gift cards. I could pay cash but then I'd just buy dumb stuff with the gift cards.
First world problems, I know. It's fine, I'll just watch the next few days and do the $399 bundle if nothing better pops up. No rush.

PSN and XBL are both down. DDOS attack. No Netflix on my PS3.

Yeah, my first foray into a new console is met with a DDOS. Hard to explain to an 8 and 6 year old why they can't connect to anything online.tjand72 wrote:PSN and XBL are both down. DDOS attack. No Netflix on my PS3.

I'm really busy for the rest of the week into next, so didn't know when I could stop at Best Buy to pick it up. I just ordered it online to avoid that mess and not miss the deal.
Apparently I even get a free stereo headset. Not bad.

Is the psn/xblive crap still going on? Blizzard is having a bonus experience event for Diablo, but doesn't work unless you're online.

Re: Current video game being played
I haven't booted up the PS4 yet today, but I couldn't get to the sony playstation store from the PS app on my phone, and it showed none of my friends were online on my friends list.. so I'm assuming still some issues. I was able to get to the live streaming stuff on PS4 through the app and people were streaming stuff live...so maybe things are going ok, and just the store is down.the wicked child wrote:Is the psn/xblive crap still going on? Not sure on the Xbox side of things.

Re: Current video game being played
Either way it sucks that neither Sony nor Microsoft can do anything about this. I know DDoS attacks are a PITA, but you would think since both had had quite a few of these at this point they could at least try to have something in place to try and prevent it. Probably alot of sad kids(and adults) yesterday with brand new systems that couldn't really play them because of this stuff.

I was told to go pound sand because I thought online-required consoles/games were dumb when EA botched Sim City. If you got a PS4 bundle w/2 free downloadable games you're assed out until Sony figures this out.

Re: Current video game being played
I've always been against games that you HAVE to have an internet connection to play, especially single player campaigns. It's games like NBA2k15 that tie your stuff to their online servers and PSN, so if you can't log in then you can't even play off line single player stuff/career mode etc. That stuff drives me nuts.
I mean I could still go play most of my PS4 games since I already have them all installed and they are all updated etc, but for someone who was just opening a Xbox One or a PS4 yesterday were pretty much SOL on anything that required online connections.

Re: Current video game being played
As noted, I couldn't even sign into my XBL account last night. Not even to play offline modes (I was originally playing something, but tried to connect back to the internet, not realizing what was happening). Was signed in, signed out, then couldn't sign back in.

Re: Current video game being played
I get that people buying a new console have expectations of online features. Other than roster updates most online stuff hasn't been important to me*. Most of the people I would game with have XBox. I just don't like consoles basically becoming gaming PCs, consoles and their games should just work out of the box.
But, in terms of gaming, I'm old. So I'll just step off my soapbox and hope PSN is fixed by New Years when I unbox my PS4.
* I was thinking about using PSN's cloud save feature moving forward, I'll have to see if it's like OneDrive where it stores a local copy and a cloud copy.

That sucks. You shouldn't have to be signed in to XBL to play a game offline. I thought Microsoft changed that?MRandall25 wrote:As noted, I couldn't even sign into my XBL account last night. Re: Current video game being played
It was weird. It looked like I was still connected to XBL, but couldn't connect to EA servers. Then I tried rebooting the console to see if it helped and it didn't work.
I think I could have played offline if I had still been signed into my account, but because I signed out/turned off the console, I couldn't get back in.

Fortunately, the kids are interested in COD TDM matches against bots, so the PSN DDOS is more of an irritant to me, as I'm trying to add PS Plus to our account. Two days of this so far. Are these fairly common? Duration too?

They aren't common no, and honestly, they don't normally last this long either, but its just a group of dbags wanting to be aholes on Christmas. Normally you might see a couple hours of downtime, not a day or two when this stuff happens.Digitalgypsy66 wrote:Fortunately, the kids are interested in COD TDM matches against bots, so the PSN DDOS is more of an irritant to me, as I'm trying to add PS Plus to our account. Re: Current video game being played
Although COD is starting up normally, now other games are freezing and locking up - Minecraft, Infinity 2.0. Both titles worked yesterday. Is there a DRM feature with these games that was working yesterday, but not any longer?

Re: Current video game being played
They are probably trying to hit psn which is down. Just had wwe 15 not wanna load because it kept wanting to hit psn.
I ended up going to settings then network and unchecked connect to the intetnet and it loaded right up. No network features but i just wanted to play single player anyways.

Remember when PSN was down for a whole month a few years back. Now those were dark times.
At least I got a couple free games out of it, so it worked out in the end.

PSN seems to be coming back up. I was able to log into the PS store a few minutes ago... haven't been able to do that for a day or so. Friends showing up as online as well.
