Re: Current video game being played
I made the mistake of purchasing the $70 xb1 version of NHL 15 at Best Buy in launch day and never even opened it. It came out the same day as Destiny and I was still heavy into Titanfall at the time. I planned on returning it but the 30 day window passed and I forgot to. I planned on doind a no receipt return after Xmas at Best Buy but didn't want to chance it. Now I guess I am stuck with it.

I think it gets a bad rap due to the bare bone release. The gameplay is really not bad, and in many ways is better than 14.

Re: Current video game being played
It just plays a bad game of hockey, IMO. I've played the retail version of a buddy's house.. its just not very good. Last year's wasn't very good gameplay wise either, so improving on that isn't saying much. The game just doesn't feel right, the way the players move, the way goals are scored.... the herky jerky goal celebration that looks like it was just tacked on.
Then you have all the modes they cut out... I mean if someone finds fun it that's great, but it's pretty pathetic what they put out, especially having a whole year to develop after taking last year off on Ps4/X1. They got raked over the coals and rightfully so.
Here is hoping to next year we get the modes back that were taken out, with nothing else stripped away, and some decent game play.

I don't know man, EA games have a way of losing game features as time goes on. Not really sure how or why that happens, but it does.skullman80 wrote:Here is hoping to next year we get the modes back that were taken out, with nothing else stripped away, and some decent game play.

I miss the 2K series, if for nothing other than competition forcing EA to be better. Think of 2k3 on Xbox. It was a more simulation-based game, had actual arenas, ESPN presentation, AND was sold new for $20. Remember what EA was doing with NHL 2003? Comedy play-by-play/color commentating, over the top checks, and zero strategy.

NFL2k5 Michael Vick is probably one of the most dominant players in any video game ever

Re: Current video game being played
I like NHL 15. I never really played HUT before this year, and actually found that I enjoy the mode.
I haven't tried online HUT because I don't think my team is good enough (yet), but I think it's fairly balanced.
My one complaint would be that I can hold the computer to 7-10 shots a game and give up anywhere between 1 and 3 goals. It's really annoying how easy it is for the CPU to score. I even turned down the CPU shot accuracy, and it did practically nothing. If anything, they just miss the net more. Any other opportunity goes in.

Re: Current video game being played
Yeah, that type of thing is indicative of the last (new) NHL game I played on the Wii. I could keep the shots low, but the AI will score on a) dump in from center or b) any power play. It didn't matter if I had two guys blocking a shot, the puck WILL go in on an AI powerplay. Rage inducing.MRandall25 wrote:

Or you block a shot, and lo and behold the computer is standing right where they need to be to control the puck perfectly and score.
But if that happened to you, your guy wouldn't be able to play the puck.

In NHL14 is you go down to block a shot and stay down longer than 2 seconds they can just pass/shoot through you like you're not there. I assume the game is depicting you as laying down but computing you as standing still.

Has there been a hockey game since the ps2 gen consoles that didnt do this?MRandall25 wrote:Or you block a shot, and lo and behold the computer is standing right where they need to be to control the puck perfectly and score.

According to drunk MIMH, buying the Orange Box for Xbox 360 is a good idea.
I've played TF2 before and obviously have heard of Half Life 2 and Portal, so hopefully he's right

I played my first online team game in NHL 15 last night. It was 5 v 5 and crazy fun. That gets rid of the weird AI issues. I had a good team and everyone had a mic. I'm guessing that's rare.

Fully expecting a call any moment from the just dance people wondering if I will be a dancer in their next game. I go so hard when Rick astley comes on that I'm not even sure how the Nintendo still works, and don't even get me started on some maroon 5 band singing a song about mick jagger...

Re: Current video game being played
So as a present to myself for finishing my MBA in May, I'm planning on getting a PS4 for myself. So lately, I've been looking for any good deals on bundles that I would want. Figuring I only have one class left, and I'll have time to finish up my PS3 games that I've been slacking on between now and then. Found a bundle on eBay that includes LBP3 and NHL 15 for less than $400. Canadian bundle, but does that even matter? The region for the system is US/Canada, so other than additional customs tax I'll have to pay, I shouldn't have any issue with the system right?

Re: Current video game being played
Right after Christmas was when you should have bought a PS4.
I just bought 1 from Best Buy. It was:
$350
Got to pick 1 of 4 free digital game download (LBP3 was 1 option)
Free silver level headset
Free shipping
That was likely as good of a deal as I'm was going to get for some time. I was waiting for a permanent price drop, but couldn't wait.

Re: Current video game being played
Yeah. I'm holding out for a good bundle. Would really like them to put something like the xbone had with the AC games, but not sure if they will do that right now. I saw this Boxing Day bundle before. I'm intrigued to say the least as I'm sure that even with the reduced features I would play NHL 15 and I enjoy the LBP games. Even with customs, if it was near $400 USD, that would still be worth it for me. Biggest issue is whether it would be compatible, but it looks like it would be.

Dunno about the region, but there shouldn't be any customs tax thanks to NAFTA and all that.dman66 wrote:The region for the system is US/Canada, so other than additional customs tax I'll have to pay, I shouldn't have any issue with the system right?

Re: Current video game being played
I could also put this under the irrational peeve thread, but the Witcher 3 PC system specifications are ridiculous. These are the minimum system requirements:
And these are the "recommended" specs:Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660
AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
All of these CPUs are in the top tiers of the Toms Hardware hierarchy charts, and the video cards are similarly lofty. The "recommended" specs are asking for $200 - $300 CPUs and video cards.Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770
AMD GPU Radeon R9 290

More news soon.viva la ben wrote:Whatever happened with the console Steam was supposed to release?
After a number of revisions since its inception, the design of the Steam Controller has reportedly been finalized and will be introduced during March's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
