Not really sure why I'm making the argument, since I hate schilling. Think it's just because the numbers are so similar. I don't put as much stock in the switxh to closer because I think a lot of dominant starters could do that, but maybe not.

Braves continue dismantling the roster, ship Gattis to the Astros. The return they got for Gattis is easily the best of the lot...but Gattis is under team control for a long time, the value of control is huge in baseball.

So looking more at the recent HOF vote. How is it possible that Smoltz gets in easily but Schilling isn't close? And why is Biggio in, but Bagwell not? I guess for the latter you could say that position difference is the deciding factor. But in cases like these, when players are from the same era, some of the votes just seem odd.
In the case of The People vs. Jeff Bagwell, the people have spoken. It was just one word they uttered, a pathetic and cruel word, but that single word was enough to convict Bagwell:

Probably.

Probably, Jeff Bagwell is guilty of using steroids. That's what Hall of Fame voters decided when they voted for the third consecutive year to deny Bagwell admission into baseball immortality. Probably, he's guilty. Definitely, he's out.

It seems like the braves are trying to get away from the home run or strike out offense.

They're following the exact same path as the Phillies. They will be old and irrelevant pretty soon.

Yeah, having price all the way until he is 30 is going to be crippling.

Max Scherzer is headed to the Nats for a boatload of years/money. Rumor is they're going to trade either Strasburg or Zimmermann. As long as neither of those two end up in St. Louis I'll be happy.

7 years, $210M for Scherzer, with the money spread out over 14 years. The Costco-brand Bobby Bonilla contract.

Rob Manfred wants to put in a pitch clock and get rid of defensive shifts. He's picking up where Bud left off by telling the small market teams to drop dead so only the Yanks, Red Sox and Dodgers get talked about on ESPN.

So for over a day now Brandon Beachy has "signed with a mystery team". Why is this a secret?

The Braves threw a combined no hitter against the Astros today.

The game ended tied 2-2.

Like every Drew Magary article its full of possibly NSFW language, but I think it's a pretty good rundown of why the Cardinals (and Bob Nightengale) are just the worst.

You looking for pizzas, a little flair, or at least someone to brag about themselves? Keep on steppin'.
But I wanted a large with olives and sausage.
