They are also going to need an outside linebacker and and running back.
Are they going to have money available to fill holes in FA?

The Steelers are 6 above average players away from being a Super Bowl team. That's something, I suppose. The Jaguars are 13 players away, so I guess trading rosters with them would be a step down.

Also interesting is that the Browns had more above average players than the Colts, Steelers and Bengals. That should be a pretty good indicator of the value of a QB.

Re: Official 2014-2015 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
The Steelers had 35 qualifying players, which was on the high side- the median was 33 players. Assume next year the Steelers have 33 players play more than 250 snaps. They would need 13 players to be at least above average. From this year they had 8- Bell, BRoeth, Brown, Beachum, Pouncey, Timmons, Heyward, Pouncey, Harrison. I don't think Harrison will be back. The other 7 should be able to maintain at least above average play. Here were the players listed as average:
Jason Worilds
Matt Spaeth
Marcus Gilbert
David DeCastro
William Gay
Martavis Bryant
Arthur Moats
Steve McLendon
Vince Williams
Heath Miller
Antwon Blake
Ramon Foster
Troy Polamalu
Markus Wheaton
Ryan Shazier
Brett Keisel
Brice McCain
Michael Mitchell
Will Allen
Sean Spence
Lance Moore
Stephon Tuitt
Mike Adams
1) The fact that they listed Mitchell as average makes me question the worth of their numbers. If your numbers don't say he sucks, you need to blow up the numbers and start over. Conversely, I thought DeCastro had himself a really good year.
2) I feel pretty good about Tuitt being above average next year.
3) Hopefully Shazier can stay on the field for more than 10 plays at a time before injuring himself.
4) Assuming they can get 1 draft pick to immediately produce at an above average level, they would need 5 from the average group to make the leap.

I could see Decastro, Tuitt, Bryant, Shazier making the leap. Maybe a random wild card from the group could step up, like Worilds or Moats

Ike retiring?
http://jimrome.com/2015/01/28/ike-taylo ... -could-be/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Taylor said he still plans on keeping his normal off-season regiment in case he can come to an agreement with a team.
“As far as exercising and working out, I’m still working out like I’m playing for the 2015 season,” said Taylor.
The 34-year old has a good understanding of where he is in life, and knows professional football careers only last so long.
“This professional athlete thing comes to an end,” said Taylor. “12 years is a long time.”
If it is the end of his playing days, the career-long Steeler is satisfied with what he’s accomplished and will be able to walk away happy.
“If it is over, I’m cool with it,” said Taylor. “I’m going to go out with a smile. Two Super Bowl [championships], been to three.”

Since we don't have an offseason thread yet:

I've laid it all out for Colbert. Follow this plan, then plan the parade.

He is. I had a friend that saw him lifting in the gym, had 225 on a bench. My buddy said he was like "he warms up the same as me, awesome!" Harrison proceeded to do skull crushers...

The eye popper there was that Ike - he of only 5 games played - allowed a passer rating against of 157.3. That's only 1 point off of a 'perfect' game (for the QB).Rocco wrote:http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_ ... -bowl-team

I questioned that analysis since I believe it had the Browns at 5 such players away. I think the Steelers have bad to average players at both corners, both safeties and both OLBs so it's not hard to come up with 6 or maybe more.Rocco wrote:http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_ ... -bowl-team

It's almost like the Browns are missing something the Steelers have and that player can paper over problems elsewhere.Geezer wrote:I questioned that analysis since I believe it had the Browns at 5 such players away.
