Troy, I recommend the rest of that trilogy: I Married A Communist and The Human Stain.

I really should get through all of the Zuckerman novels:

Oh, I never picked that up. So Zuckerman is sort of like Vonnegut's Kilgore Trout?

That's a reasonable comparison.

After watching the film Sum of All Fears, I decided to go back and re-read the book. I read it when it came out 24 (!) years ago and remember liking it, but not as much as the first few books). I lasted about 100 pages before I gave up. So overwritten, dull, with long passages describing minutiae like how to cut a tree down. Ugh.

Similarly, I am re-reading The Hobbit, but enjoying it a lot more than Sum of All Fears.

So far, I think Kindle Unlimited has been a good value for me. I've read probably somewhere near 10 books over the last month, and that's a pretty decent value at $9.99 per month. I can live with a buck a book.

Read the first three books in the Caverns and Creatures series by Robert Bevan. These are silly, gross, and laugh-out-loud funny books centered around four buddies who get thrown into a fantasy world that runs on Dungeons & Dragons rules. Each of them has undergone a transformation so that they now are their characters—an elf, dwarf, halfling, and half-orc. The books are filled with profanity and toilet humor. For example, Cooper (the half-orc character) rolled an extremely low Charisma score, which manifests in part through constant farting (if not worse). These books are not high literature. But they are well written and very funny in an Animal House sort of way.

halfway through The Fall by Camus

I love it. Camus is awesome. French existentialism (him and Sartre) is my favorite portion of any philosophy.

The last 4 years has been the most I've read in my life. Gotten through about 180 books.

Wow, damn fine read.

I would be lying if I claim to fully understand it but Camus has such a beautiful writing voice. Reminds me a lot of Fitzgerald.

Really enjoying the forever war. This is my first go at military Sci fi. Anyone have any suggestions for anything similar? I also picked up hyperion by Dan Simmons, which sounded pretty boss.

Finished Mr. Mercedes last night. It was okay. Not the usual Stephen King kind of story but an easy read. I started "A Land More Kind Than Home" last night. Not sure what to think of it so far.

Come again? Is it like a Desperation/Regulators kinda relationship?

No. In that DK is about divorce and loss and LS is about marriage and discovery.

Sorry, with King I should've been more specific. :P
Speaking of, I thought The Regulators was getting the movie treatment. I wonder if it did and it want straight to DVD or something. I know Desperation was a TV movie with Ron Perlman.

Not necessarily all military, but I've enjoyed The Expanse series by James S. A. Corey (which is the pen name for the combination of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck). It starts with Leviathan Wakes:

Also like the Odyssey One series by Even Currie. I haven't read the fourth book yet, but the first three were good. The series starts with Into the Black. Plenty of space combat in these:

The Mote in God's Eye is a classic of SF:

David Weber and John Ringo are prolific authors whose works are often in the military sci-fi genre.
