My wife takes classes at CCAC. All campuses were closed yesterday because it was cold, but somehow they're all open today. Moronic.

Re: The Weather Thread
I just got back from CCAC. Our teacher canceled class on her own. It's total insanity to be out right now. 3 people out of our 30 people class including myself made it out there before our teacher canceled everything.Dickie Dunn wrote:My wife takes classes at CCAC. I hate the fan. Pomp is saying, "Hey! Snow is starting to accumulate!" No ****, Bob. The roads are totally destroyed and guys are saying 3-6. We already have about 4 inches in the last 2 hours in Mt. Lebanon...

Haven't heard trucks out by us yet, which is odd. We're between 8 and Middle in Allison Park, closer to Middle, by St. Mary's / Middle Road Inn.

My road won't get touched till tomorrow probably. I can get off my street if I need to though, usually the street above gets plowed that leads to the main road and then its clear from there. Might try to venture out later.

First "real" snowstorm of the season, and it was nice. Started snowing about 11:30AM as I got home from the beer store and continued all day. My daughter certainly enjoyed watching it at the glass door. Probably similar for Factorial.

You've never heard of a column shift? I mean, normally I would say "I assumed it was a column shift" but you were specifically asking about the number of forward gears. Seems like an odd nitpick.Factorial wrote:I think you mean 3 on the tree.dodint wrote:I assumed it was 3 on the column.Factorial wrote:Is that a 5 or 6 speed?PensFanInDC wrote:I drove from Robinson to the top of Mt Washington in my manual yaris this morning. Re: The Weather Thread
Same here. Sounds like you guys in the I-95 corridor got a bit more snow than we did in the western burbs. At any event, the freezing rain on top of the snow should be fun to shovel in the morning. Good news is, mid-40s temps tomorrow will melt any residual ice in the ol driveway.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:It's raining now after getting significant snow.

Re: The Weather Thread
I know it's late, but I have a pretty funny story from Saturday that is weather related. It's Saturday night and all's quiet in the 44windmill neighborhood. Our street was covered in ice all day, so I didn't hear much traffic. I was taking a break from packing boxes, and I heard a car trying to make it up our ~3% grade street. Being the nebby neighbor, I peek out the window to see what seemed like a red Chevy Cavalier spinning it's wheels and going absolutely nowhere at full throttle. After 5-6 tries, I'm internally yelling at the guy to just give it up. Seems like he wasn't from the neighborhood, as I didn't notice the car, so he was probably trying to go home. But it was obvious he shouldn't have been driving with the road in its condition.
A couple minutes later, he tries again and starts to turn his wheels to try to get traction. All that does is turn his car perpendicular to the road. After swerving left and right a few times, he once again floors it. This time, his car turns perpendicular to the road and goes forward right into my two-door-down-neighbor's yard. I'm thinking, OK what an idiot, he should just back out and give up. No, this doofus keeps his foot on the gas, turns another 90 degrees facing down the street, crosses the neighbor's driveway and proceeds to smash into a telephone pole. Must have busted his radiator, as smoke emanates from the hood.
In a further attempt to disprove Darwinian theory, he gets out of his car, knocks on the neighbor's door, and calls the cops. Sure, you hit a telephone pole, but at 5, 10 MPH max. Call a tow truck, not the cops. Guy seemed to be in his 60s/70s. I didn't watch the whole episode, but I hope that cop gave him a breathalyzer because he was definitely not "firing on all cylinders" up there. I'm sure the cop was not too happy as he was ice skating all over the road when he got out of his car.
