If I wanted to try to get something today, this would suffice, yes? http://www.staples.com/Siig-9-65-Displa ... sc_content" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oof, nevermind, they don't have them in-store...they're online only...barf...

Understood. But looking at the specs on that card, it's pretty low end. I would try the integrated graphics first and only look to add a card if the onboard solution is clearly not up to the required tasks. Integrated graphics have gotten much better in recent years.

Yeah, that's what I recommended in the follow on discussion. The only limitation that i see is the onboard video card has DP/VGA, so his computer monitor would be running on VGA. Not bad but not optimal. The important part (TV) would be running on the DisplayPort so that's good.

Unable to find an in-store adapter around me...I bought the exact adapter you put forth, dodint...they say it will be delivered on Sunday...I contest that, but either way, it's on the way...

If anyone bought a Lenovo computer in the last 3 or 4 months look out for the adware and root cert that they installed. This root cert compromises all https traffic:
The critical threat is present on Lenovo PCs that have adware from a company called Superfish installed. As unsavory as many people find software that injects ads into Web pages, there's something much more nefarious about the Superfish package. It installs a self-signed root HTTPS certificate that can intercept encrypted traffic for every website a user visits. When a user visits an HTTPS site, the site certificate is signed and controlled by Superfish and falsely represents itself as the official website certificate.

Even worse, the private encryption key accompanying the Superfish-signed Transport Layer Security certificate appears to be the same for every Lenovo machine. Attackers may be able to use the key to certify imposter HTTPS websites that masquerade as Bank of America, Google, or any other secure destination on the Internet. Under such a scenario, PCs that have the Superfish root certificate installed will fail to flag the sites as forgeries—a failure that completely undermines the reason HTTPS protections exist in the first place
.

Whoa. I just came on to complain because I am literally crippled right now on my new Lenovo laptop (2 months old). I don't know what those words all mean, though, so....awesome.
Try this:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... _uninstall" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not all models have it but this will get rid of it if you do.
Lenovo promises not to do it again.

If you have to do something real quick in iTunes, just do it. Don't let it update. You won't get it back for a long while and when it does it'll want to reboot. Listening to Classic Rewind on Sirius jogged my memory that I wanted to start a new playlist of the Classic Rock my Dad listened to when I was a kid and I can't. F you, Apple.

How long did it take you to find a video with a bird in it?

Also, maybe you're the only one on here that has one? I've never even heard of it. :P

lol, I didn't look for a stupid bird. I just searched for 'winbook stop auto rotate'.

Not mad about Kane. I don't even like him.

Honestly, I probably would've found the video too. I'm just really crunched on time this weekend. And this thread wasn't meant to be a 'dodint AMA' but a place for a bunch of the IT people here, which is actually going really well. I couldn't answer a single question on Apple products, for one. I'm having fun anyway. Especially with mikey footing the bill. :wink:

I needed it for exactly what the guy is talking about in the end. You're laying in bed on your side and the thing keeps turning up and down and sideways. Enough to screw up your neck. So now it's stuck in one direction. :)

Customers that change their work order specifications after delivery should have their NICs taken away. :evil:

Ok got it all together now...seems pretty on point...I can record video, at least at a rudimentary level...getting it fired up...watching the Canes/Hawks game, quality is an improvement on my Center Ice package...but probably won't be as good on HD broadcasts...

But I'm happy with it right now, I'll get a chance to feel it out before the playoffs and make any needed adjustments...

Thanks for all the help on this. :thumb:

No worries, sorry for the hiccup.

I don't know much about video capture/editing software, maybe someone can give you some suggestions on free/reasonable programs to help you out.

I got some rudimentary software from NCH or some such...they have a small suite of things that I'm foxing around with...it would do the job in all likelihood...very time consuming...

For some reason I thought MS-MM went away in Win7, but now that you mention it I think it just has to be installed/activated, it's just not part of the primary build. I like it a lot for a free solution, made my wedding movie with it and that was with two cameras, soundtrack, and title card. :thumb:

Minimize or close all open programs so that you are on your desktop, hit F5. See if that works.
This did not work. Any other ideas?

Right click Computer, Properties, Advanced System Settings, Advanced Tab, Performance-Settings, Uncheck both:

Fade or Slide menus into view and
Fade out Menu Items after clicking
