Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
I'm assuming if it smells alcoholic there were no preservatives in it (specifically potassium sorbate). I'm sure if there's no mold and it smells alcoholic, then it's okay to drink. It may not taste very good though depending on the yeast that was in it to do the fermentation. But there are no known yeasts that would be in the juice or in your fridge that are unhealthy for human consumption. i.e. if it did ferment, it's not going to kill you or make you sick, but may not taste good.

Thanks. That's interesting. I was just curious. I was gonna make more juice, couldn't find the pitcher, found it, and this potent-smelling stuff was in it.
Eh, I'm gonna toss it anyway.

Serious question: Is it OK to drink?

You don't understand my question? For all the scotch drinkers out there... here's a pretty cool little map of flavors and also has a price vs. rating chart:

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
hmmm... I've seen it a few times before, so it didn't really take me by surprise that much. Certainly not the point of me saying "nope" to the graph based on just that.

Trying a bottle of Scapa sms. Smooth, dry, a little plain. Strikes me as a tweener of Islay and Highland styles. Doesn't mix well with my normals, so neat/small rock is way to go. Enjoyable, though.

Has anyone done the wigle whiskey tours? prefer the barrelhouse or distillery tour?
edit: nevermind... found out the barrelhouse is only available May-Sept. We're going in April. distillery it is.

I really enjoyed the tour. Didn't really care much for their product, but it was definitely worth a trip. The cocktails beforehand were great.count2infinity wrote:Has anyone done the wigle whiskey tours? prefer the barrelhouse or distillery tour?

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
Tried 2 scotches over the weekend. Oban 14 and Lagavulin 16. Thoroughly enjoyed both of them, but I think I liked the Lagavulin a little more. My wife commented after drinking the Lagavulin that I smelled like a campfire, but in a good way. Might be the next bottle I pick up and put in the liquor cabinet.

Both top choices. Oban is an underrated scotch IMO.

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
I'm glad that I had the Oban before the Lagavulin, just because I think it's a little bit more subtle with the flavors than Lagavulin. I feel if I'd have had them the other way around, I wouldn't have tasted anything in the Oban. I'm glad to know that I enjoy the peated whiskeys as now I don't really have any fear in trying new scotches, or if I see a sale at the liquor store, I don't have to look them up to see if they're peated or not.

Re: Liquor and Wine and Mixed Drinks
Have you had Laphroaig yet? Are you doing all of these neat still? I AM IMPRESS
I picked up a Yamazaki 12 a couple weeks back; Japanese single malt, a bit thinner and more understated than most Scotches, but very smooth. This is an easy one to do neat. Available in PA liquor stores. This is the distillery that won Single Malt of the year for 2014 for one of their high-end bottlings.

I had Laphroaig many moons ago... remember not particularly caring for it, and that's why I was sort of afraid of trying scotches, but I will certainly give it another go at some point. And yeah, the ones I've tried have all been neat to this point. I look forward to trying as many as I can.

Yea, Laphroaig is a tough one for a beginner, but if you liked the Lagavulin neat you'll be good on the Laphroaig now.
