Chad Hermansen and Midre Cummings once had good springs also, nothing to see here.

That right there is a classic example of a spring training "I will suck no more" article

I think jaff could take that 5th outfielder spot over Lambo.

Something I love about spring training is that hope springs eternal.
Keep it up Jaff and ignore the nattering nabobs of negativism.

Re: 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
Started to watch the MLB.com NL Central preview. It seemed like these guys just completely skipped over the 2014 season. I got through the Cardinals segment and about halfway through the Pirates (they were 1,2).
They at least acknowledged the fact that the Cardinals were dead last in the NL in Home Runs last season. But that problem is fixed by Jason Heyward? And his 11 HR and .384 slugging was due to hitting at the top of the Braves lineup. I agree that the Cardinals have a great starting pitching staff, but their offense is old.
As for the Pirates, they are going to struggle to score runs. When that was the Pirate issue they wanted to highlight for the Pirates, I had to turn it off. Average runs per game in 2014 was 4.07, the Pirates scored 4.21 per game. They actually scored more than the average American League team. From 2013 to 2014, runs scored declined 2.4%, the pirates increased their total from 2013 to 2014 by 7.7%.
In a year when runs were down by a good bit, the Pirates scored more, and when you are the 4th best offensive team in the National League, scoring runs isn't the problem. And even in a lost year from their best power hitter, they had the 3rd most HR.

Id like to think that if it comes down to Locke vs Worley that the Pirates could somehow keep both since im sure Morton or Liriano will get hurt. Sadly I think Locke will be traded and figure it out and turn into the all star he was a few seasons back.

Re: 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
It'll be interesting to see what happens. I expect them to let Locke languish as the long relief guy in the bullpen until a starter inevitably gets injured. If Locke gets traded, the Pirates are probably looking at Casey Saddler as the next starting pitcher in line, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.FreeCandy44 wrote:Id like to think that if it comes down to Locke vs Worley that the Pirates could somehow keep both since im sure Morton or Liriano will get hurt. I also don't think Locke has a ton of value to another team unless they want a pitcher who hates the strike zone and takes an hour between pitches.Dickie Dunn wrote:It'll be interesting to see what happens. If you have Showtime here's your chance to see the Dock Ellis doc. Lots of good footage of the Buccos from the early '70's. Bad ass team that should have won more than one WS.

The best young outfield in baseball. Roll that around your brain for a minute. But then wonder about this: Is it possible the Pittsburgh Pirates are about to trot out the best any kind of outfield in baseball?
Correct answer: Extremely possible.
McCutchen -- a top-three MVP finisher three years in a row. Marte -- a fellow whose .975 second-half OPS was the fourth best in the National League (behind only Stanton, Anthony Rizzo and Buster Posey). And Polanco -- whose minor league numbers over the past three years compute to .310/.375/.482, with 94 stolen bases tossed in there just to make your eyes throb.
"Potentially," says a third scout, "you're talking about three perennial All-Stars."

This organization is being regarded as one of the deepest if not the deepest, top to bottom, in baseball
