Let's say mid 80's to now... who's the greatest actor in that time period?

Gary oldman is pretty underrated. Dicaprio has to be somewhere in the conversation pretty soon.

Fixt. Anybody that can go from something like Forrest Gump to Road to Perdition has some serious skillz.

Christian Bale. Robert Downey Jr. Tom Cruise's crazy ass. Denzel Washington. Clooney. All "younger" actors that I would put ahead of Norton.

Star Wars standalone is officially titled Rogue One and will star Felicity Jones and will be released 12/16/16. Star Wars: Episode VIII confirmed for 5/26/17, 40 years plus a day after A New Hope.

I'd say Leo isn't just close to being on the list, I'd say he's smack dab in the middle of it. Meryl Streep might be a tad old for those guidelines, but she's had great work. Maggie Smith (again, maybe too old, but I love her), Denzel, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day Lewis, Sean Penn? Lots of names to think about putting on a list for at least discussion.

Ooh, for sure. Almost forgot about him. Can't beat Gladiator, and I thought Robin Hood was excellent as well.

Just looking at it in terms of films released in that period:
Daniel Day-Lewis
Christian Bale
Gary Oldman
Edward Norton
Leonardo di Caprio
Anthony Hopkins
Ralph Fiennes

Paul Giamatti is very underrated, but still not sure he makes the cut from the 80s until now.

Gary Oldman is a great one... looking at his IMDB, I always go "wait... THAT WAS HIM?!?!" Very versatile.

He's very good in pretty much everything he's ever done, but I've only ever seen him be great in two or three roles (including 'Private Parts'). With most of the other guys being discussed, I think great is what's expected, and very good feels like a letdown. But I do agree he's kind of in the Tony Romo/Matthew Stafford category of actor.

Giamatti is fantastic in Cinderella Man, thought TASM2 might cancel some of that out.
