Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
It shouldn’t be allowed. It’s clearly cap circumvention. But so is the crap Phoenix has been doing for years now taking on contractss with high cap hits but little actual costs and frankly what the Pens did to get Brassard.
Two simple rules, to solve what the Caps and Pens did, 1) you can’t obtain a player by any means you traded but was then bought out for one year and 2) you can’t retain salary in a trade until that player has actually dressed for a game for your team.
What the Yotes do, that **** needs banned outright.

The league hired Pronger while he was on LTIR, ie: NOT retired, from the Flyers. On LTIR they could skirt the cap hit, retired it would have been a full hit.
The LEAGUE hired Pronger. How can he be not retired as a player, still under contract with the Flyers... and be hired by the league?
Obviously they don't really care about cap circumvention.

For years the league has turned a blind eye for a lot of things so this shouldn't be anything surprising.

And when he’s suspended for 20+ games there won’t be any cap relief.Firebird wrote:Well, the silver lining from the Caps are stuck with Wilson for 6 years at 5+ mil aav.....

I sure hope the Caps end up regretting that contract big time. And sooner rather than later. That guy is pure garbage.

I hope someone knocks that POS into the next galaxy and takes Oshie with him. $5.1 mil for a headhunter who'll see 3rd & 4th line minutes is unreal and no Mr. Trotz it was a shot to the head and not shoulder contact.

Codi Ceci is asking for 6M. There is some word floating around that, while the tactic is to start high and meet in the middle on the player side, both Ceci and Stone may have set their ask extraordinarily high as a way to get Ottawa not to accept the award and let them walk. Or in simpler terms.....Pruezy11881 wrote:Mark Stone is asking for $9mil in arbitrationI know his camp is starting high to get the salary number but geez...
THEY WANT THE **** OUT OF OTTAWA and may have found the easiest way to do it.

Teams can no longer walk away from arbitration. They need to pay the award and if they don’t like it they need to trade them then.

Article on the Athletic today about Ryan Miller. Probably the best part was the beginning, where Miller states when his three year old son gets mad at his parents or is told something he doesn't want to do, he looks them dead in the eyes and shouts "Let's go Kings!"

Preds:
Going into next year they will have about $17.5M (+/- cap increase) to resign Fiala, Hartman and address goal. The rest of their "important" roster is signed. Plus, push come to shove they could attach a pick to Bonino and throw him somewhere for more cap space.

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
Bergevin sent Pacioretty to Vegas for Suzuki, Tatar ($500K retained), and a 2nd.
I guess the $500K retained on Tatar helps on that contract a little and doesn't make it such a hit for Bergevin, $4.8M for the next 3 seasons as opposed to $5.3M. Suzuki is a bit of a get.

Bergevin is making trades, but yet hasn't gotten back a player in a position of necessity, that being a center. When is his reign going to be over up there in Montreal? I think he's clearly not capable to be in that position any longer.
*edit - I'm saying no center back because I don't know if I feel Suzuki will absolutely be effect at C in the NHL.

Thoughts on Pacioretty trade? I thought he'd get more. I would've liked if the Pens had gotten him.

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
I think that Suzuki is a steep price. It helps a ton that he resigned though. I do not think that Tatar meshed well in Vegas. Not talking on the ice. I think that McPhee was looking to move him this summer no matter what.
Pacioretty makes up for the loss of Neal, and even Parron.

The islanders actually created a very good looking third jersey.

I'm thinking Ted and the caps will travel with a homemade banner they will unfurl behind the bench for every away game.
Sweet karma Wilson will have his suspension hearing tomorrow!

He got 20 games. IMHO it wasn't enough but at least the Pens don't see him for awhile..

I wonder how many Caps fans will say that he got 20 games instead of 5 because Sundqvist was a Penguin at one point.

Wild send Niederreiter to Carolina for V.Rask. Carolina wins that one.
