Oilers trade Lucic w/ salary retained and a conditional 3rd for Neal. Maybe there's hope that other players can be traded too.

Just saw that the Rangers are buying out Kevin Shattenkirk. It seems like so many players careers take a nosedive when they go to play for the Rangers in Manhattan why do you all think that is? There is such a long list of players who have gone there and their careers have just tanked. Is it the pressure of playing in New York? The fact that they get overpaid and can’t live up to their Contracts? To many distractions in Manhattan?

He was probably fishing. It's a lot to ask of Phil to be thinking about hockey in July or August.Jim wrote:

The Kings are going to have $11M in dead cap space next year due to poor player/contract choices. $6.25M Kovalchuk, $4.0625M Phaneuf, $700K Richards.

"Right now, that is not in my game plan," Predators GM David Poile said during a local radio interview, "I met with [Laviolette] this morning. We had a long talk about lots of different situations going forward. I'm not contemplating making any coaching change at this time."
Nashville have gone 4-5-1 through their last 10 games — the sky isn’t completely falling for the championship-hopeful team.
"We've really got some soul searching to do right now," Poile said. "I have to do some real thinking about where we're going for the rest of this year. I think there's a lot of people that I want to talk to about different things. Right now, we're not in the playoffs and I'm open for business, if you will.”
With the trade deadline nearing next month and the general manager refusing to lay the blame on his head coach, the Predators could possibly be big players as transaction season heats up.
It all depends whether the team is in a position to be buyers or sellers before Feb. 24.
"I think the standings are so close right now that when things get closer to the trade deadline, you could possibly see more action,” Poile said. “I guess the point I'm saying today is, sitting here outside of the playoffs, we have for the last several years been buyers at the trading deadline. If we don't improve here shortly, we might be a seller for the first time in a number of years.
“I'm hoping that's not the case, but as I said, I am open for business and I'm certainly going to be willing to listen to different teams' thought processes on any of our players at this point."

Real surprised he was fired in season and not afterwards, especially since Poille as GM does not make hasty moves with head coaches. Now, they are down a HC and asst HC and don't even have an interim coach.Pruezy11881 wrote:Lavs fired from the Predators...

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
When anyone wants to complain about the Pens having bad contracts like Jack Johnson, Tanev or even Hornqvist... just look at Minnesota:
Parise $7.54M until nearly 41 (6 seasons)
Sutter $7.54M until 40 (6 seasons)
Spurgeon $7.6M until 37 (8 seasons)
Zuccarello $6M until 36 (5 seasons)
Dubnyk $4.3M until 35 (2 seasons)
Hornqvist $5.3M until 36 (4 seasons)
Johnson $3.3M until 36 (4 seasons)
These might not be good, but they are less $ for less time. There are teams out there is much worse spots than the Pens.
