Well, they have to have some kind of plan before the Final. A team from Canada is guaranteed to be in the western conference final, and that is guaranteed to be against a US team.BigMcK wrote:Has anything been mentioned regarding travel protocol if (big if) a team from Canada advances to the Cup Finals and faces a team from the USA?

Seems the NHL may be hoping hoping hoping that Canada lifts or makes a specific exemption to the quarantine regulations by that point.Sigwolf wrote:Well, they have to have some kind of plan before the Final. Caps trade Siegenthaler to Jersey for a 3rd
Surprised the Caps did this as I thought that they were high on Siegenthaler.

Must be a former Pen available for which they needed to make roster space.Jim wrote:Caps trade Siegenthaler to Jersey for a 3rd

Carolina did a ceremony tonight before their game vs. the Wings honoring Jordan Staal's 1000th game. Lot of video highlights of Staal as a Pen, including his first goal, hoisting the Cup, etc. and video tributes from Sid and Ray Shero. It was well done and good timing as Staal is having quite a resurgence this year and the Canes are one of the clubs allowing a few thousand fans to attend.

In 2018 Erik Gudbranson signed a 3 year deal ($4M per) with Vancouver. That deal ends this season. He is on his 5th team while under that 3 year deal.
Vancouver (57 games) traded him to Pittsburgh (26 games), who traded him to Anaheim (44 games), who traded him to Ottawa (36 games), who traded him to Nashville.

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
Since the Penguins did the Brassard trade February 2018, there have been only four 3-way trades. All four have the middle team retaining for very little (a 4th or a 5th)
Of the 4, meaning 12 team's involvement (3x4):
Chicago involved in 2 of them (sending out the main player both times)
Columbus involved in 2 of them (sending out the main player both times)
San Jose involved in 2 of them (retaining both times)
Vegas involved in 2 of them (acquiring the main player both times)
Toronto involved in 2 of them
Detroit and Tampa rounding out the 12.

Guerin bringing in Shero as a Senior Advisor. Good to see Shero back in the game.

Sad news from Columbus, as goalie Matiss Kivlenieks died yesterday from a head injury in an accidental fall. He was primarily in the AHL for the Monsters, but played in 8 games for Columbus. He was only 24.

Unfortunately, probably not. I see the "journalists" are keeping with the report first, worry about accuracy later technique... All the initial reports indicated he died from a head injury, and now they are indicating he died from chest trauma. Pretty big discrepancy there. Very sad, nonetheless.Jim wrote:Fireworks accident.Sigwolf wrote:Sad news from Columbus, as goalie Matiss Kivlenieks died yesterday from a head injury in an accidental fall. Sounds like he fell out of a hot tub when some fireworks started shooting towards the hot tub.Sigwolf wrote:Unfortunately, probably not. Moving the Keith trade to NPR...
I wonder if Edmonton allowed him to retain his NMC. CapFriendly still shows it but they are not an official outlet. It would be Edmonton's call on if he got to retain it. If he did, then he would need to be protected in the ED. I suppose there is a chance that he verbally agreed to waive for the ED (like Fleury did).

Suter and Parise bought out by Guerin. Allows them to protect Dumba.

For EACH player:KG wrote:Suter and Parise bought out by Guerin. Allows them to protect Dumba.

Cap hits would have been: $7,538,462, $7,538,462, $7,538,462, $7,538,462
Now $2,371,794, $2,371,794, $7,371,794, $7,371,794, $833,333, $833,333, $833,333
$2.4 vs $7.5
$6.4 vs $7.5
$7.4 vs $7.5
$7.4 vs $7.5
$0.83 vs 0
$0.83 vs 0
$0.83 vs 0
$0.83 vs 0
Cap savings of:
$5.1
$1.1
$0.1
$0.1
-$0.83x4
So they opened $10.2M, then, 2.2M, then two of only $0.2M, then 4 years of and extra $1.67M.
Real $ though...
Each was owed $10M, $20M total
Each will be paid $6.67M, $13.3M total
They save $6.7m real $ over the next 4 years.
Guerin finally going to put HIS stamp on the Wild?

Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
As they opened $10M+ this year that basically goes away for the following 3 years. They will not be able to sign someone long term using that $10M this year (even with Rask going away next year, that is still $6M+ cap add back on). Maybe they will be willing to take a bad contract or two (but only in their final year) as they will have that extra cap right now.
