Re: NHL trades, rumors, banter, free agency etc
Edmonton traded G Dylan Wells to Carolina for FCs.
23yo 5th round pick in 2016. RFA that needs to be qualified/signed. Split prior years between ECHL and AHL, with a near 4 GAA in the AHL and a new 5 GAA in the ECHL. Did not play at all in the 20-21 season.
Why would you want that? I've seen that it is because Carolina has no goaltenders under contract that qualify for exposure in the ED, except Nedeljkovic who they want to protect. Their other goalies are UFAs or do not have more than 2 years of pro experience. Wells, having played 3 seasons in the ECHL/AHL and being a RFA meets the requirements for exposure.
However, Helvig has 3 years ECHL/AHL (and just as bad numbers) and is a RFA, so he could be exposed.
Why would you bother trading for a 4.98 GAA in the ECHL goalie?

Big contract for Brandon Carlo. 6 years 4.1M per. He's got a lot of size and is a RH shot but he wasn't overly physical this year. To play the Montreal, Boston, NYI style that is the type of player you need.

Preds in a 3 team trade of Ryan Ellis to Flyers for Philippe Myers and Cody Glass(from Vegas) and Flyers send Nolan Patrick to Vegas. This a VERY low return for Ellis and I'm sure they are overjoyed in Philly.

Philly sends Gostisbehere, 2nd, 7th to Arizona for FCs.
Cost a 2nd to move $4.5M of cap of a player that forgot how to play D.

Seattle sends Pitlick to Calgary for a 4th.
That means that Seattle's ED pick from Arizona was a 4th.
HORRIBLE draft by Francis and crew.

Chicago trades Adam Boqvist, #12, #44, 2022 1st to Columbus for Seth Jones, #32, 6th. Jones has 1 year left at @ $5.4M, "agrees" to a $9.5Mx8 extension.

Stastny (probably top 5 in overpaid NHL players, $80M career earnings) takes a 42%+ pay cut and signs for $3.75M. That's the kind of deal they need to get Malkin to agree to, 43% cut, $5.5M

Winnipeg sends two 2nds to Washington for Dillon. Steal for the Caps. Dillon got top-4 time in Washington because the Caps #5 onward are poo. I would rather play Pettersson than Dillon, in basically any circumstance.
Potentially bigger than the insane two 2nds, is the $3.9M that it opens up for the Caps. However, their top-4 now consists of two of Schultz, Jensen, and Kempny.

$9.25Mx8 for Nurse. Maybe hanging onto $4M Pettersson and Marino isn't a bad idea.

Derrick Brassard signs with the Flyers for $850K.
33 years old and has fallen from $5Mx5 contract, to near league minimum.
On February 1, 2019 he started the day as a Penguin. That means he is on his 6th team in two and a half years. Pittsburgh, Florida, Colorado, NY Islanders, Arizona, and now Philadelphia.

Nice reporting by TSN I'm pretty sure this was our pick.
Gustavsson made nine appearances for Ottawa last season with a 5-1-2 record, a 2.16 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage.
The 23-year-old from Skelleftea, Sweden also played 13 games with the Sens' American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, earning a 5-7-1 record.
The Senators picked Gustavsson in the second round (55th overall) of the 2016 NHL entry draft.
