Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Ok, I’m going to point out the obvious, so please forgive me:
The first PP unit has approximately 36M in salary out there but as a team only two PP goals through eight games.
The defense has one, only one goal!
The third and fourth lines have barely, if at all, contributed to the scoring
Rakell has disappeared
Jarry is a Jekyll and Hyde goalie
EK has been emasculated by Sullivans insistence that he concentrate on defense, if I’m correct only two shots on goal last night?
Grove pointed out that this will be the first losing October since 05-06. I did not know that.
And finally this was to be the easiest part of the schedule, grab points!
I’m just venting, but something needs to change. Who or what is this team?

So, how do you fix lack of finishing? The entire roster is built on the idea that they’ll finish their chances, so when they don’t, they lose games that they should be winning.

What can they do at this point, other than totally rearrange forward lines. There doesn't seem to be a quick fix trade on the horizon.

The Pens have all their quality scoring forwards on two lines. Those stats aren’t a surprise and I’ll bet if you showed those stats for top six and bottom six the numbers are way different.dark_forces wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2023 3:14 pmWhat can they do at this point, other than totally rearrange forward lines. I think rearranging the lines to have 3 scoring lines would be huge.

At this point into the season, and if the players are forced to take matters in their own hands, it's a clear sign that they have tuned out the coach ing staff. It's also a clear sign that it's going to be a long season of disappointment.
For those that still believe Sullivan deserves more time because he's a "good, proven coach", is it easier to hear the words "Fire The System!!!"?

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Again, there’s two options here, the team is doing exactly what Sullivan wants and expects or they are completely tuning him out, when that happens you change the entire team or you change the manager and you can only turn over and entire team in European soccer if you really like your manager.
But considering Sullivan has rarely made changes except for injuries in the lineup or when trying to send a message to a younger player it seems it’s the team doing what they practice for the most part. At least with Therrien we knew they tuned him out. Bylsma and Johnson were the team playing as coached with that the problem. Sullivan is the problem.

Wonder what will happen first - Carter gets scratched or Sullivan gets fired?

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
They don't finish great because most of their skilled players are smurfs. Even if they go to the net, it doesn't do anything. They need to add someone with size and skill in the top 6.
Evander Kane type. Maybe move out someone like Rakell to change the dynamic. I like Rakell, I think he will bounce back, but the Pens only have so many options to trade.

Can't wait to see what the lines in practice look like today...
Sully hinted at maybe changes need to be made last night. We shall see!

Given his idea of "changes", I expect him to move Carter back to center and Acciari to wing and call it a day.KG wrote: Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:12 pmCan't wait to see what the lines in practice look like today...

There weren't even anything resembling line rushes today. It was all drills. Sullivan did call the team over to the far boards at one point for a discussion, but other than that, Dejan said it was a complete waste of time.Sigwolf wrote: Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:23 pmGiven his idea of "changes", I expect him to move Carter back to center and Acciari to wing and call it a day.KG wrote: Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:12 pmCan't wait to see what the lines in practice look like today...

I change my prediction, though. I think next game he demotes O'Connor and Zohorna to the 4th line so he can promote Nieto and Carter to the 3rd. Seems more in line with the Sullivan modus operandi.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
I doubt very much that it happens, but maybe they deal POJ and Carter to Philly for a 4th round pick—or something along those lines. (POJ is the incentive for them to absorb salary). The big "if" would be if Carter consents to it. If he does, he either plays for them (or doesn't) but his salary would be on Philadelphia's books until the end of the season.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
I can see them doing it if the Penguins offered them a 2nd or 3rd round pick, but no way they do it as a hockey trade or a nostalgia trade. Maybe nostalgia at the deadline if both teams are out of the playoff picture and for "future considerations". Even then, why would the Flyers do the Penguins any favors?dark_forces wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 2:37 pmI doubt very much that it happens, but maybe they deal POJ and Carter to Philly for a 4th round pick—or something along those lines.
