Game 19 vs Sabres - Thoughts from the Morning After

Post by Penspal »

Pens lose 3-2

- Right back at it tonight... :thumb: because sitting around stewing that late game collapse does no one any good
- We have to give the PP units time to adjust. Getting Rust back will help, but gawd its painful to watch knowing it likely means an "L"
- Chippy game, hate seeing our #1 guys taking so many shots. No shortage of guts, but Pens could use more snarl if that's our playstyle
- Ned kept them in that game. In the last few games goalies are BIG factors in Pens wins & loses . No **** right, but Goalies matter.
- Karlsson consistently makes really risky plays, but I especially hate seeing him do it when he's the last man back.
- Good on Letang for taking the # from last game & not shying away from Krebs. Kris did get away with a punch, but that's hockey :fist:

- unrelated but Kudo's to MAF for sticking it to Bettman

- Fire Sullivan and the rest. So often this team just breaks down and gives up the lead. That's what a coach is there to prevent. I know you can't stop it happening every time and you're going to take losses with a middling team, but a quarter of the way in, this is unacceptable.

Fire them.

Unfortunately, I watched the entire game. But I missed this last item. What did MAF do to Bettman?

How often does the same scenario need to be repeated (whether it be a loss after entering third period with a (multi-goal) lead, futility/dysfunction on powerplay, etc.), before it is deemed insanity, and warranting a significant change? When does coaching get held accountable? When does coaching hold players accountable?

What now?
Haven't seen if Bryan Rust will give it a go tonight?

35 needs to approach game, saying will not allow a goal.

Lets win!

I wonder if a loss here could pressure Dubas to do something. I don't think Kyle would be looking forward to losing to his old team.

Nieto, DOC, and Rakell have all been offensive nothing-burgers all season.
Jarry either pitches a shutout or "cannot stop beach ball."

What’s scary is while the goaltending has been somewhat inconsistent the pens are fourth in the league in save % and well above the league average of currently .902 (pens are .922) and they still can’t win games

If I’m not mistaken, Fleury had a Native American emblem on his goalie helmet. Bettman said it was not allowed.

I think it was Yohe who posted this ... In the last 64 regular season games, the Pens have only 19 regulation wins. Not really acceptable. Power play bottom of the league, not acceptable.

It's almost as though being mediocre for 1/2 a decade would not equate to a 3 year contract extension for the coach, but...

Has anyone figured out yet that Sullivan has the Sid stamp of approval and therefore he’s not going anywhere unless the core want him out? People need to work on Sid lol

Its official. Sullivan has Bylsmitis, aka Disco Dan Syndrome:

He is rather defensive, but I think it's because he doesn't know how to change things to stop losing leads. I think the team is on autopilot and until Dubas changes the coaching staff, this team will continue to flounder in mediocrity. The standard is the standard. Oh wait, that's the other mediocre team motto.

If the organization continues to pay him and thinks he can do no wrong he kinda is above criticism.

Exactly. I'm so **** sick of him it's crazy. I'm tired of half hoping the team just keeps losing so that maybe, just maybe, his stupid, useless, defensive idiot ass will get fired. He's such a moronic tool and I'm just so over his endlessly arrogant attitude and obvious lack of ability.

It's that Boston type attitude. I think it's in his DNA.
