Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
Does this defense have any toughness at all? They always seemed to get pushed around. Granted they’re probably sick of getting fined for playing tough, but geez.
Announcers: Metcalf is a great blocker
NFL fans: how is that not holding?

Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
Part of the problem is having all the ILB and safeties injured, real easy to dictate play against a team with no defense that’s any good in the middle that already had only one good corner.Daniel wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:46 pmDoes this defense have any toughness at all? Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
That’s part of it, but they did sign a bunch of injury prone ILB’s and Kazee got suspended. I should have been more specific, the DL isn’t that tough. They need to get better with that unit. Benson and Hayward are pretty good but there is a huge drop off after those two. Leal and Loudermilk need to get better and are still young enough.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:52 pmPart of the problem is having all the ILB and safeties injured, real easy to dictate play against a team with no defense that’s any good in the middle that already had only one good corner.Daniel wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:46 pmDoes this defense have any toughness at all? So we are going to lose this game 50-43 or something. That’s fine.

That’s what the NFL wants. Boring no defense last team with the ball wins AFL style games.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:57 pmSo we are going to lose this game 50-43 or something. That’s fine.

Making a general gesture 20 feet from a player is a taunting penalty, smacking them in the face with the ball from 5 inches away is fine though.

Still trying to figure out how Pickens got a fine. I doubt the player even saw what he did, on camera it was barely noticeable.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:01 pmMaking a general gesture 20 feet from a player is a taunting penalty, smacking them in the face with the ball from 5 inches away is fine though.

Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
That play is what I like about Rudolph. He has a calm demeanor and the offense seems to feed off that. Even when he started for Ben and they kept the training wheels on he never panicked.
He might seem calmer because Kenny and Mitch are both pretty spazzy but the offense does look better with Mason.
And there are at least 2 legit blue chip centers in the draft and I can see the Steelers getting one of them.

Players are so dumb, stop waiving your arm around like it was a fumble.

Is it just me or does Najee Harris look really good since Canada was let go? He seems more decisive and is just a jackhammer when he runs.
That TD was case in point. Holy crap, that was impressive.

And stop poring the other way after 4th down when it’s clear the player made the line of gain.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:18 pmPlayers are so dumb, stop waiving your arm around like it was a fumble.

Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
Rudolph comes in and the offense have over 800 yards in 2 games and looks like an NFL offense. When is Tomlin going to see that Rudolph needs to get an opportunity to start and have Pickett as the backup and Mitch elsewhere?
Funny how you have the same 10 guys and make 1 change and the offense goes from inconsistent to actually pretty good.

Can’t even say it’s the schedule. This week and last week aren’t any tougher or easier than any other part of the season.Daniel wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 6:36 pmRudolph comes in and the offense have over 800 yards in 2 games and looks like an NFL offense. I’d say going into Seattle is as hard as it gets since San Francisco. Maybe not the toughest team but the toughest environment and going across the country.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 6:45 pmCan’t even say it’s the schedule. Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
One thing is clear, Rudolph should had been at least the backup over Trubisky. Lost two games because of that, maybe three if Rudolph came off the bench when Kenny got hurt instead of Mitch.

Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
I think they should have started Rudolph instead of drafting Pickett, but that’s a whole other conversation. If Rudolph fails you get Will Levis if he succeeds you might have a nice playoff run.DelPen wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 7:00 pmOne thing is clear, Rudolph should had been at least the backup over Trubisky. I think Tomlin underestimated Mason and took him for granted for whatever reason. He was clearly better than Mitch but MItch runs better so ya know, better for the Matt Canada offense.
I think they’re competing with Baltimore if Mason starts over Mitch.

I also don’t see why Baltimore would play anyone good since they clinched the top seed today despite it being a home game for them.Daniel wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 7:03 pmI think they should have started Rudolph instead of drafting Pickett, but that’s a whole other conversation. Pretty amazing that they could end up being 10-7. And regarding Rudolph, it's clear that he has such a better pocket presence than the two other QB's. He runs through his progressions when the primary receiver is covered. Pickett and Trubisky get happy feet too much.

Watch that play where Pickens dove. Rudolph was about to be sacked and threw it down the field without striding. Put it in a spot where it was either thrown away or an incredible catch.Badger Bob wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 8:04 pmPretty amazing that they could end up being 10-7. So a win and either a Jaguars loss at Titans or the Texans-Colts tie and Steelers are in the playoffs?

Hearing reports today that the decision to make Pickett the 3rd string emergency QB instead of the starter or backup was made above Tomlin.
BTW, anyone know where this version of Najee Harris has been hiding?

Re: Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread
Behind Matt Canada’s insistence that either he runs a sweep or he runs in obvious running formations. Running in obvious running situations in obvious formations into obvious rushing lanes can’t be good for a guy like Harris. Everyone knew when and where he was going to run and Canada’s attempt at stealth was running Harris in a sweep.Badger Bob wrote: Mon Jan 01, 2024 10:57 amHearing reports today that the decision to make Pickett the 3rd string emergency QB instead of the starter or backup was made above Tomlin.

If that’s the case about Pickett it doesn’t look good for him or Tomlin for next season.
