Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Per Yohe Pens made an offer to Taresenko.
Would be interested to see him on a line with Malkin and Pusty and bump Bunting up to play with Sid. We'd have this:
Bunting - Sid - Rust
Taresenko - Malkin - Pusty
DOC - Hayes - Rakkell
Lizzotte - Eller - Noel
X - Belli
I could still see us flipping Eller too. Maybe we try for Taresenko and if he goes elsewhere go trade route with Eller to help Avs or Oilers.

Another example of the coach having input to players he wants. GM can't be to blame if these moves fail.

Getting Tarasenko would be a solid add for sure. I'm sure he is waiting on Florida to see if they can sign him. But coming here to play with Malkin is a good landing spot. Should only be a 1-2 year deal and help us remain kind of relevant.Pensfan4life8771 wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 8:49 amPer Yohe Pens made an offer to Taresenko.

Agree. It'll be interesting for sure. FLA has a little over 7 mil in space but Lundell needs a contract.KG wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 9:30 amGetting Tarasenko would be a solid add for sure. I read there are several teams reaching out to Tarasenko. I don't think the Pens have a chance. I haven't been a fan of his for the past several years, he's a shell if what he was in St. Louis. But, at this point, he's the best option available!Pruezy11881 wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 9:33 amAgree. It'll be interesting for sure. Again, no reason to think Tarasenko would want to come here.
Edit: Also not sure what would make him attractive for the team? More age, will cost too much $$$, yada yada

At this point, I would look at either Colton from Colorado or Kane from EDM. Both would fit into a 2-3 year window at a reasonable price.

Tarasenko is a RW. So if by some chance he came here (there are better teams, but, he may be buddies with Malkin), I think lines would look something like this....Pitts wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 9:54 amI read there are several teams reaching out to Tarasenko. Re: Random Penguins Fodder
I don't really have any issues with what the Pens have done so far, even though I've been a big advocate of letting the young guys battle it out for spots on the roster instead of retread 30-somethings. My reasoning is that most of the signings are guys who will fetch a draft pick at the deadline should the wheels be off by then (which, let's be honest, they probably will). I like what Eller has brought, and I kind of hope he starts the season in Pittsburgh, but he's a valuable deadline trade chip this season as well. Even Hayes may be moveable this season, and if he isn't, then next. The Pens should have a slew of picks in upcoming drafts, especially after the 2025 deadline. MP is another chip who could fetch something pretty nice.
Also, I hope Crosby finishes his career in Pittsburgh but if he decides he wants one more shot at a Cup, you accommodate that and reap a king's ransom in picks and prospects, especially if he signs a 2 or 3-year extension. After next season, Malkin's $6.1 million is off the books, Rust and Rakell will probably be trade bait, maybe even O'Connor by then. Even though they have botched their chance at a soft reboot, the opportunity is there for A.) a couple of years of top 5 picks, and B.) cap space to take on some cap dumps for more prospects and picks.

Re: Random Penguins Fodder
Funny thing is, if we add a top 6 forward this team is certainly better than what it was end of last season. A lot more depth with players playing in their proper roles. Eller (if he's not traded on the 4th line) Acciari 4RW so he can get in on the forecheck and be physical for example.
Taraesnko would be a good get. He is still a 50+ point guy and does most of his damage at even strength.
I also think Kane will get dealt from Edmonton. If Edmonton would pay us nicely to take on the last 2 years of his contract that could be a win-win. Get a top 6 forward for now and a future asset. Kane and Bunting in the top 6 would definitely make us tougher to play against.
Definitely sounds like we are looking to add in the top 6 which is correct. DOC on the 3rd line makes the lineup that much deeper.

I knew I was forgetting someone....Beauvillier. Your lineup would work too. The problem the Penguins are going to have now is, how to fit the 3Ps into the lineup. None of them are waiver exempt.DeHaven162 wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 10:19 amThink it might be:FLPensFan wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 10:11 amTarasenko is a RW. 100% agree with this comment. If we land a top six winger we are better than last year. Pens always did better in the Malkin/Sid era with a more established third line as it allows the top 2 lines to not take all the weight on. I would be ok with Kane as well. He plays with some edge which I think we are always looking for a winger with edge. As much as I don't like him Tom Wilson would be perfect for us.KG wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 10:58 amFunny thing is, if we add a top 6 forward this team is certainly better than what it was end of last season. This team is a Crosby injury away from a top 3 pick.
