Robertson definitely fits the mold. Young, skill....small...Former 2nd round pick of KD. Could see one of our fringe cheap forwards and a pick for Robertson type of trade. Assuming Toronto will trade with us.
If no, offer sheet him! The Toronto bridge has already been burned. What's the difference
Laine officially cleared. Curious to see where he winds up...I know a team who could use his shot on the PP...
Last report I saw said Columbus wanted picks and prospects for Laine. Didn't really want a roster player. What they want and what they get may be two different things, though. There are only a few teams that can afford to take Laine on without retention or shipping salary back. If Laine was 23 or 24, maybe Dubas would be more interested. At 26 and the cost to acquire, I don't expect the Penguins to be in the mix.
If Dubas has another move up his sleeve, I'd expect more of a Robertson or Wahlstrom type move.

I read an interesting tidbit about Carolina being a team to watch here. Their window is open and they have the type of assets to send back, and who knows their system better than newly appointed GM Waddell? On that team, Laine wouldn't have to be Mr. Everything and could help them make up for some of the offense that walked out the door.

Carolina should have a lot of options because of Necas. If they can't reach an agreement with Laine, they should look at a Necas for Laine swap, with CBJ retaining and kicking in a high end pick or prospect. I would also look at a Necas for Ehlers and McGroarty swap. Both make a lot of sense for Carolina should Necas not sign.

Last I read, Columbus wants a hockey trade without retaining salary.
That's a massive pass for my money.
Coming off the programme and with injury history, at half price he's most likely a commodity, at full price a liability. We're in no condition to gamble on that.

Especially when the payoff if it works is sneaking i to the playoffs. This team is not 1 player from contention so definitely a hard pass….

I mean if the Pens could trade Jarry plus Hayes/Eller or something to make the money work, then yes, I’m all for trying Laine. Jarry needed to be traded at the draft and wasn’t, and we have too many bottom six players over 30 and making good coin. I’d trade them to take a chance at Laine any day of the week. What I wouldn’t do is give up picks and prospects. Laine could help our pathetic PP

Yeah, but that's not going to be what they want in return. I figure either a team sends CBJ a decent player and a few picks and gambles on Laine performing (can't afford that ourselves) or he stays in Columbus for now.
I'd pack Jarry's bags and drive him and Hayes to the airport, but that's not happening.
Edit
Looking like Laine to Habs for 2nd, 4th and two players.

To realistically get Laine, with some retention, I think we'd have to part with DOC, a 2nd rounder and a prospect like Pickering or Ponamarev. Just my 2 cents. That's why the more I think about it, it's not happening.
Yeah if CBJ retains a decent amount I would expect there to be a legit bidding war for Laine. Pure goal scorers don't grow on trees. Yes he has some baggage attached to him, but he will still go a for a solid return I bet.
Alex Nylander was signed to a 1 year, one way AHL contract by Toronto Marlies. I think we can safely put to the bed the thought that he was ever a top 6 option.

I saw. He had a fair shot here and didn't measure up. Dime a dozen kinda player. Long shot kind of player, if the Leafs end up needing a cheap depth guy, though they'd need to sign him an NHL deal first. Probably not going to happen.

Could you imagine if Carolina could pull off some kind of masterclass GM move by sending out Necas, prospects and draft picks and netting Laine, Ehlers, and McGroarty?
That would be a legit haul and replenish their scoring potential.

Carolina just re-signed Necas 2 year $6.5m AAV
Now it just remains to be seen how keen Necas is on staying. Money wasn't the issue...playing time was. I'm guessing with losing Guentzel they are likely promising more playing time, and if he doesn't get it this year, he'll ask for a trade again this summer.
Nothing like pilfering from an organization that has not won in nearly 60 seasons.
Well, they're certainly due. And, that organization has practically unlimited resources, so you know you're getting professionals at, or very near, the top of their game. I'm okay with what's going on. The NHL is very much like that. I know some of our management followed Guerin to Minnesota, and more recently, Rutherford to Vancouver.
Unlimited resources don't mean anything. It certainly doesn't mean they are picking the right people, making the best choices and decisions etc. Only continues to reinforce that KD apparently only seems to want people he is already connected to or knows, almost always from Toronto. Insightful.
Since not much going on, I'll throw this one out there...Flyers alienated one of their prospects this year, and the player no longer wants to be part of the organization. The Athletic had goalie Alexei Kolosov ranked as their 7th rated prospect in the system.
So what did the Flyers do? When Kolosov's KHL season ended, they brought him over to the US to play some games for Lehigh Valley in the AHL. He came over and played only 2 games, while the Phantoms rode Cal Peterson and Felix Sandstrom instead.
So, why the sour grapes? Kolosov speaks very little English, claims the Flyers put him up in a hotel in the middle of nowhere and pretty much just left him there. He had no Russian teammates to room with or speak to on the the team, and pretty much just went to practice/games, then sat alone in his hotel room. Wasn't what he expected when he left the KHL.
This after the Cutter Gauthier situation that ultimately led to Gauthier's trade....Flyers gonna do Flyers things.
A recent Athletic article with the Joseph brothers had a small piece on how the brothers ended up on the same team.
--P.O. stated that came July 1st, he started talking to teams, and STL was one of them.
--On July 2nd, Mathieu got a text from Ottawa telling him to call the team. PO and Mathieu have lived with each other the past few years. Mathieu said he knew before he got the text that he might be traded.
--When P.O. found out it was to STL, he called his agent and basically told him to accept whatever offer STL had out for him. Agent said he could have easily pushed for more, but P.O. didn't want to pass up the chance to play with his brother.
