Curious if he will be half as good as the hype already seems to be. Keep reading that he is basically already projected as a #1 goalie which seems a bit excessive at this juncture.

He played well in his first test...2 shutouts and 1 goal goal against in 3 rookie tournament games. Drew rave reviews from his teammates. And Russia is developing a ton of good goalie talent over the last decade.Antonio wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:10 pmCurious if he will be half as good as the hype already seems to be. Also helpful that he has an above average grasp of English already, leaps and bounds ahead of wear Malkin was at this age.

Re: 2024-2025 Season Random Penguins Fodder
I'd assume Murashov starts in the ECHL, which isn't horrible. He can go down there and be the clear cut #1. Even if the Penguins were to trade a goalie (Gauthier the most likely), it still doesn't help to have him sit in WBS with Blomqvist likely getting the bulk of the starts.KG wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:04 pmNice! real curious to see how all of these goalies in the system get playing time though....Jarry trade please.

Jarry just needs to be traded, Nedeljkovic and Larsson (best goalie last season in Sweden we signed as well) should handle the NHL, Blomquist and Murashov can handle the AHL. Gauthier is the odd man out there..

I don't think it would hurt Murashov to play in the ECHL for the firsst half of the season while waiting for Jarry to be traded, then get lots of ice time at Wilkes-Barre once Blomquist is brought up post-trade. And it might be good for Blomquist to get a bit more AHL experience before being brought up.Pens4Life wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:44 pmJarry just needs to be traded, Nedeljkovic and Larsson (best goalie last season in Sweden we signed as well) should handle the NHL, Blomquist and Murashov can handle the AHL. Well - he's Russian. That country has been a goalie manufacturing monopoly lately it seems. I'm super excited to have him in the prospect pool. Can't wait to see what he can do.Antonio wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:10 pmCurious if he will be half as good as the hype already seems to be. I have a feeling Penguins hockey is going to be really boring for the next couple years. I cannot remember the last time I had such little excitement for an upcoming season.

Only because of stale coaching and system really, but it's been boring for awhile.lemieuxReturns wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 9:08 pmI have a feeling Penguins hockey is going to be really boring for the next couple years. Sorokin
Kochetchov
Samsonov
Georgiev
Fedotov
Tarasov
Askarov
That's the handful of goalies under age 30 that come from Russia. Pretty solid list. You can add Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy and Varlamov to that list in the over 30 category. Russia really has become a powerhouse for top tier and elite level goaltending over the last 10-15 years.

Oh I agree. I think he's an exciting prospect for sure and I'm very pleased they acquired him. I'm not sure the hype train should be as far down the track as it appears to be at this stage but he definitely has a ton of very positive attributes in his favor and signing him is, at this stage, a huge acquisition... at least on paper.

While I like the Murashov signing, I’m concerned about his body size or stature. Man he’s thin! I wonder if he’ll have the stamina for 70+ games. From what I’ve seen, he reminds of MAF.

Re: 2024-2025 Season Random Penguins Fodder
Yes, some of the highlights I've seen, he's fairly athletic, and I too thought of Fleury. Like any young guy, I'm sure they'll work with him on how to fill out his frame without losing any speed or athleticism. Elite Prospects lists him as 6'2", 172lbs. Just looking at the NHL today, Binnington, Georgiev, Saros, Lindgren, Wolf, and Askarov are all listed at 180lbs or lighter (Wolf is listed as 166lbs; Binnington has same height/weight stats as Murashov), so, he likely doesn't need to pack on a ton of weight. I think any goalie coming from Europe, where seasons are usually in the 40-60 game range, needs to adjust to a bigger workload.Wyopen wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 10:26 amWhile I like the Murashov signing, I’m concerned about his body size or stature. His lateral movement seems really strong. I've seen some goalies need more than one push to go extreme side to side low net. Really strong push off.

Reading the Pensburgh article on the Murashov signing, they're guessing that he goes to the AHL with Blomqvist, and Gauthier and Larsson go to Wheeling. I'm not sure about that from the man-management perspective. Unless Murashov is just clearly a Shesterkin-level guy, it seems like Gauthier and Larsson would feel pretty hard done by that arrangement.

Trading Jarry would solve that.largegarlic wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:22 amReading the Pensburgh article on the Murashov signing, they're guessing that he goes to the AHL with Blomqvist, and Gauthier and Larsson go to Wheeling. Not sure if this is the referenced "Pensburgh" article, but PGHNow: https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/pittsbu ... -murashov/
This article calls for a Jarry trade as well.

I just don't see it happening, Larsson to the ECHL. He's 25 years old, signed a 2-year deal with the Penguins. Larsson had a 1.93GAA and .920SV% in the SHL last year, Sweden's top league. I highly doubt Larsson would be happy leaving one of the top pro leagues in Europe to come play at the ECHL level. I think Dubas would have to find a trade for him if that was the case.largegarlic wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:22 amReading the Pensburgh article on the Murashov signing, they're guessing that he goes to the AHL with Blomqvist, and Gauthier and Larsson go to Wheeling. Gauthier was named the top goalie in the ECHL last year. He has nothing to prove at that level, so if they send him down there, again, they'd be better off trading him. He needs to get some AHL starts.
Penguins may have several unhappy goalies.

It's a shame it was impossible to know that keeping Jarry and signing him to that contract was a giant mistake. Alas, no one could have possibly known and it was totally unavoidable.

Indeed. Even here on this forum, there weren't a whole bunch of people raising pitchforks against that contract. We never saw this coming!Antonio wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2024 2:40 pmIt's a shame it was impossible to know that keeping Jarry and signing him to that contract was a giant mistake. Also, this is one thing that can't be blamed on Sullivan. He gave Jarry every opportunity to succeed as a starter. Just saying.
(Still fire Sullivan)
