I'd rather go 0-82 with Sullivan than bring on Q.

No offense to the greatest number 24 in the history of the Penguins (after Troy Loney, Tim Horton, and Dwight Mathiasen of course), but not sure I would agree much with Ian Moran's rankings here.KG wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 7:09 pmhttps://neutralzone.com/nhl-scouting-re ... prospects/

--I'm no scout, but Poulin doesn't belong on the list anymore. He'll be 24 in February, he's one of 13 1st rounders from the 2019 draft that have yet to play 100 NHL games, one of 3 from that draft yet to play double-digits. Any draft day scouting reports of him need to be severely lowered at this point.
--I was never a big Broz fan, but I'm much higher on Broz right now than I am Poulin for sure. He had a really strong dev camp and rookie tournament.
--I wonder if Ian watched any of the Penguins prospects this summer. If he did, he probably wouldn't list Brunicke as a bottom pair defenseman, and Murashov should probably be on this list somewhere.
I don't think there's a 1st line forward or #2 d-man...but I do think both Pickering and Brunicke may have the ability to be a #2 d-man. A steady presence like a Brian Dumoulin when paired with a true #1 d-man.

Yup. So the rankings are probably inversely related to how much Sullivan likes any of those players.KG wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:17 pmI didn’t notice that. Re: 2024-2025 Season Random Penguins Fodder
I think those are pretty accurate assessment.
Some room for any and all of them to blend up higher or lower.
Poulin? That's a bust by now. Four-A player, 13th forward.
Brunicke and Pickering both I figure top 4 D if they develop properly. But I could see them become a 2D and 7D, if hitting ceiling s or floor.

Utah lost 2 of their top 4 D men for several months. Durzi and Marino. Both are RHD, but maybe they will have interest in MP. Please overpay...
Or maybe they will have interest in Karlsson?? They have the cap space, and the owner likes making splashes.
KD should be trying to move on from EK. There's no need to have him here on a losing team.

Karlsson would look good in Utah. Starting off strong, new fanbase and making the playoffs might solidify themselves in Utah. I wouldn't even expect much back if I'm the Penguins so they won't get him at full value.KG wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 12:07 pmUtah lost 2 of their top 4 D men for several months. Durzi and Marino. I don't think Moran wrote the article, but I believe the author took Moran's scouting reports to generate the article. Moran's a cool guy. I've spoken to him a few times via Twitter, and he's been doing the scouting (I thought more of high school aged, Boston area kids than pro's) for a few years now.Antonio wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:06 pmYup. Like many have speculated, Eller is likely gone as he likely has the most appeal. I would also be looking to move on from Karlsson if the return made sense.
Although, I imagine they keep him at least until the end of the season, if they move on from Pettersson.
We have the forwards at the prospect level that could assume roster spots in place of the veterans that likely will be shipped out.
Many of the over 30 players we have now are unnecessary moving ahead.

Could you possibly even trade Crosby at this point? (joke)

https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/pittsburg ... ney-crosby
This version of Crosby is eerily remniscent of the version from early in the 2015-16 season, back when Mike Johnston was still the Penguins' coach and Pittsburgh was in a pretty serious struggle to win games. It was easy to tell through Crosby's body language that whatever message Johnston was trying to get across to his players wasn't being heard anymore.

The fourth period put out a report that the Pens have put MP contract talks on hold.
Take it for what it’s worth but they originally also said once Sid’s contract was done they would then turn toward MP.
We’ll see. There is no reason for this team to sign MP to some 6-7 year deal. Trade him for the best package. Hopefully this season will be a sellers market, as opposed to last season.

I can easily believe it. We are almost done with October, and this team hasn't gotten off to a stellar start. Last year, on October 31st, this team was 3-6 in 9 games. We are 3-4-1 right now, with 4 more games remaining in October. I could easily see them being 5-6-1 to end the month. 3 extra games compared to last year, and still under .500 probably wasn't the ideal start to the season they wanted.KG wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:43 pmThe fourth period put out a report that the Pens have put MP contract talks on hold.

We've given up the most goals in the league right now. I wouldn't be jumping to re-sign anybody on this defense right now.

I always compare where the Pens are to the Caps as they are similar in aging core players. They seem to be much better at this retool than the Pens are. Good solid signings and youth. Kind of like what we are asking for.

It also helps when part of that aging core is on LTIR, freeing up $15 million.Skatingpen wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 9:39 amI always compare where the Pens are to the Caps as they are similar in aging core players. I don't have the info in front of me but I'm fairly certain that the Caps didn't throw away nearly as many No. 1 picks as the Pens did. That has to help. Plus, they've dished out far fewer head-scratching contracts lately.
I admit, though, that I thought the Caps doomed themselves when they signed Orpik and Schultz and Kuzy to those long, large contracts. Oops!
