I guess they aren’t firing Sully but they bring in a coach to work on the defense and it’s way worse this season. Fire Quinn?

The lack of situational awareness by this team is astounding.

Unless it’s a 2027 5th for an old player and a 2025 2nd. Feels like if we move a big salary out we will see some of those deals in early spring with teams looking to clear some cap for the deadline.

Should reporters even bother asking post-game questions at this point? They can probably get 90% of the answers from any other game they've watched against a good team.

Remember way back to last season when at least they’d often play to the level of the opponent…

I think GMKD needs to offer Mike Sullivan an extension. I mean this team sucks right now and we are going to need one of the top 2-3 coaches in this league to turn it around. Who better to do that than Sully! Lock him up while you can….maybe 10 years 65 Million? What do ya think?

From Taylor Haase post game file:

I asked Erik Karlsson how he’d assess his own game tonight: “Not bad.”

(She said more detailed story coming, but I really hope that was a joke)

the full quote should have been "Not bad.....awful."

Dubas needs to tell EK if he doesn't dramatically change his attitude and his half efforts that Mike Hoffman is a free agent and will be signed.

Calm down guys. They’re doing some good things out there. They started out with pretty good jump. The puck is not bouncing their way. Just have to get to their game.

Just ask Mike “4.25 mil/yr “ Sullivan.

Then he starts pointing to the other players in the room and says"that guy sucks; that guy over there sucks worse; and that guy with the 'A' on his sweater, he's bad."

First sign of a total **** dysfunction family member: Deflect, Deflect, Deflect. It's not my fault that those other people are bad.

Total lack of leadership at the ground level. Dubas counted him a a core four player.

The Pens haven’t won in Carolina since December 2018!

What a joke. That alone should be enough to get the coach fired.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have $11M salary for playing “not bad”? He needs to be sent to the AHL. Have him get in touch with reality. Who’d have thought that Graves is playing better than EK65.

I only watched the 1st period, since I had to put my daughter to bed, and then saw the score and didn't turn it back on. That said, I thought they played relatively well in the 1st for what that's worth. They carried play for the most part, and Carolina just scored off a couple isolated mistakes/great shots. It was much different than the first Carolina game where they lost 4-1, but it felt like it could have been 8-1. Though, that doesn't really matter when the final score ends up about the same.

Made it through 2 periods before I couldn't take it anymore. This team is so stale it's ridiculous. Now, I loathe when they play a hot goalie (which sure seems to happen a lot these days...hmmm) but they never really seemed to be on the same level as the 'Canes, even when they carried play for a while in the first. I assumed a shutout was coming.

Regardless, my guess is that soon KD will make some marginal trade to "shake things up", that they'll keep Sully at least through the end of the season for financial reasons (I mean, because he's such a great coach), bring Jarry back to play out the string and hope that he returns to some semblance of an all-star (so they can ditch him in the summer without giving back too much), and, finally, unload what he can at the deadline for picks/prospects. Eller, Acciari, MP (despite his horrible play lately), Buntiing, Puljujari (what a wasted opportunity here), maybe DOC if they want, should bring in some OK picks and unload some cap. Then bring up as many AHL guys as they need to see if any of them have something interesting. If they don't, OK, move along. They can get a lottery pick in 2025 and take on some crap contracts for more picks. "Sid, we love you and all you've done for this franchise, but you realize it's over, right? Let us know if you want out, although we'd love it if you stuck around..."

Give me that salary and I'll be more than happy to stand on the ice and watch hockey from ice level. FTR I never was a fan of the trade and now they're stuck with him and his $10 mil salary for another 2 years after this season. :face:

That's their MO though, play relatively well for X minutes. The team will fight you on being too old and too slow, but they are. They may score most of their goals in the 3rd period (at least they were at one point), but their mistakes magnify as the game goes on.

I honestly don't believe that I have seen a run of 3 well played games in almost 2 years. You can have winning streaks of that size or longer, where you get lucky. Where, sorry to say, the opponents end up playing "Penguins hockey" and shooting themselves in the foot more than the Penguins putting on an epic display of execution and finishing.

Dallas and Washington up next. Two playoff teams. My guess...2 losses. They have yet to beat a good team this season.

What you saw in the 1st was pretty much how the rest of the game went with the Pens playing fairly well and Carolina just being content to capitalize on mistakes. They also got some stellar goaltending from Kochetkov. Whether the game would have played out differently if the score was closer earlier is anybody's guess but the Canes certainly didn't bring their A game except for goaltending. They played the style of a road game while at home and that was more than enough to win easily despite being out-shot and out-chanced all game.

Turned it off after the 2nd goal. Knew want was going to happen and no point in putting myself through that.

Someone needs to sit him down and school him. Either he's severely lacking self-awareness, or he's not willing to confront his failings. Both are fatal.

I was skeptical about the Karlsson trade and was anxious about it. I understood that Dubas wanted to swing for the fences for one last time with this group. We know the window is shut and it was for nothing, but at the time it was a move I didn't hate, but wasn't over the moon about.

Graves is okay right now. Not great, not 4.5M, just okay. He's not sinking us. Everybody else is
