So who comes up, Blomqvist or Larson?

Do teams usually announce in advance that players will be going on waivers? Seems a bit odd.

Seems they are done with him regardless.Tico Rick wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:17 pmDo teams usually announce in advance that players will be going on waivers? Seems a bit odd.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
What would be the cap savings (if any) if they bury him in the minors? I can't see anyone claiming him, nor do I see a trade happening without 50 percent retention. I'd be up for that, BTW.

Holy ****. I don't dare hope that now maybe possibly hopefully the unthinkable could happen...

He will clear, but I guess we could ship him somewhere while retaining 25 % (on top of the ability for him to be placed in minors now)

Penguins will only save 1.125M in salary if Jarry is buried in the minors.
I don't think the Penguins will retain on him if they trade him. They only have 1 retention spot left. I would think they want to save that for a more favorable deal. Would you rather dump Jarry, retaining, and essentially give him away....or use that retention spot on someone like Rakell or Pettersson, where it could change a 2nd into a 1st.

I'm for saving the 1.125m for now. You're right, FLPF, save the retention for someone at the deadline maybe. They can work on a trade for Jarry but they're not up against the cap, so let it ride for now.

I'd be shocked beyond words if someone claims him. No one in their right mind would have signed him to that ridiculous contract but somehow the million dollar "expert" who was in charge thought it was a good idea when countless ignorant nobody fans knew it was a horrendous plan. If jj is somehow still costing us money, imagine having to eat 4m a year in cap space to just bury Jarry's useless behind in the minors for years. Pretty sad that someone taking him for free would be a huge win.

As a 2-time all-star goalie, I'd think there's a team out there that has faith their goalie coach could "fix" him. Not sure who has the cap space, but I won't be surprise if someone snatches him up.

Agree, regarding the following years. However, for this year, regardless of the retention spots, it may be our only chance to get rid of him. We could keep him in minors and retain on Rakell etc., but it's not really helpful for us to have Jarry in the AHL at that rate.FLPensFan wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:36 pmPenguins will only save 1.125M in salary if Jarry is buried in the minors.

Perhaps San Jose. They have only 1 goalie under contract after this season.Cow_Master66 wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:48 pmAs a 2-time all-star goalie, I'd think there's a team out there that has faith their goalie coach could "fix" him. This whole situation is on Dubas. I mean, there was about 5 people in the world who watch the Penguins who thought resigning Jarry was a good idea.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
I was ok re-signing him at the time, since there weren't many other options, but I always objected to the contract. He should have gotten either a raise or a longer term, not both. If he had gotten a 2 year/$5 million per deal or a 5 year/$3 million per deal, it wouldn't be as hard to unload him whether through a trade or buyout.lemieuxReturns wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:08 pmThis whole situation is on Dubas. I would be shocked if anyone claimed him with his current deal. I assume Dubas was offering him up in trades and had no takers when I bet he would have taken the good ole "future considerations" for him.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
Re-signing him wasn't the issue. Re-signing him for the term and $$$ he got was. The thoughts floated from Dubas and management was, there weren't any better options available. That's fine, but they didn't need to commit over 5M AAV and 5 years AND a 12 team NTC for all 5 years.lemieuxReturns wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:08 pmThis whole situation is on Dubas. THAT....is on Dubas. Should have been a 1-2 year deal, maybe in the 4M AAV range.

I was beginning to think just rolling with Jarry and Nedjelkovic was basically a tanking strategy. They're two of the worst goalies in the NHL statistically, and Larsson and Blomqvist are both in the top 15 in the AHL, at least in terms of save %. It seems nuts that they would try one of those guys instead of the current two guys unless they were trying to lose.

Re: OMG They actually did it! Jarry on waivers.
Finally. Something.
I guess I'd just hang onto the $1.25M in cap space for now and decide how best to use retention closer to the deadline.
I don't mind the idea of using retention to get a better return on a Rakell or Pettersson, but I think that is a luxury we don't have with the number of bad contracts we need to get rid of. Jarry, Karlsson, Graves, Hayes.
If the option is to get a 1st back for Rakell instead of a 2nd, or dump the Jarry contract altogether, I'm in the dump Jarry camp.

Maybe waive Ned tomorrow too, and just bring up Blomqvist and Larsson both. Can't be worse than what the big club is currently getting.
